I will forever be a fan of Brandy simply because of the unique nodes she creates between textures and tones. There will never be another.  However, the moment I hear her voice on "new" material it always sounds dated. I immediately feel like it's an unreleased song from the previous ere, but I can't seem to put my finger on why. I wonder if the reason she's respected (vocals/texture/tone) could be the cause...meaning she is stuck in the 90's with how she layers her vocals and emotes through a song. It's always a nostalgic feel and never seems current.

It's no shade honestly...I truly love the girl. It's just a thought that I would to hear opinions from other fans.

I accept your opinion but at the same time we haven't even gotten a body of work from her in this wave of music yet. I was prepared to reply with a full breakdown but I digress.... a little. I'll just say that I believe that as vocally versatile as Brandy is she is fully capable of being "current". You're literally watching artists in her likeness (H.E.R., Summer Walker etc)   strive. It's just that her biggest stamps and impact in music have been in earlier times and we can't help that she's played a big part in cultivating a couple decades of artists just from that. Don't limit her because of her legacy.

i think he means the way her vocals are arranged and are layered on some of the new songs we had lately give them a 90s vibe... not that her voice is stuck in the 90s and can't be current.

To me this is kinda true on some songs (for ex. Jet Black; All I need (even tho it was from Star) not to mention some others) but this is definitely a voluntary thing..

Whereas on songs (rather snippets like Role Model, Lullaby (full song), Back to sleep (Chris Brown acapella cover) and some more) sound very current cause she's usin' a different texture of her voice and the arrangements are différents, the vibe is different. If there's one thing i'm sure is that brandy's voice isn't/cant be stuck in the 90s she can sing any type of music aaand it makes sounds how it's supposed to sound 90s, 00s, 2010s hell even 20s (ex: Beggin' and pleadin') ... i mean i might get angry at her often lately outta frustration but bitch can turn anything into anything she wants to if she wants to.

Brandy can't choose singles correctly either.. after Full Moon the single choices have all been poor except PID and RHD.  that's been her biggest downfall tbh
