I will forever be a fan of Brandy simply because of the unique nodes she creates between textures and tones. There will never be another.  However, the moment I hear her voice on "new" material it always sounds dated. I immediately feel like it's an unreleased song from the previous ere, but I can't seem to put my finger on why. I wonder if the reason she's respected (vocals/texture/tone) could be the cause...meaning she is stuck in the 90's with how she layers her vocals and emotes through a song. It's always a nostalgic feel and never seems current.

Well obviously you can't converse like an adult. The question was not dumb. No matter if the "alt" girls are doing it or not, my question was why does it sounds dated from Brandy? She is the original at it and there's no denying it. There is no artist that could ever do what Brandy does on a song...ever!

It's shade and maybe partially true. But she had a urban hit with Put It Down and the children lived for that song and it didn't sound dated because it was more upbeat and fun. That proved to me that she could appeal to current mess  and shes young and young looking still. You are a looker but you have no brains huh

There is absolutely no hope to ever have a positive interaction with members on this board. It was a simple question. Not everything is shade...so annoying.

You are implying that Brandy's voice isn't/can't be current and that's simply not true. We've heard this style before on this song with Daniel. Dangelo and Lauryn beat it into the ground. I find it a bit boring but that's just my taste.  This isn't a good example of a song that reflects Brandy's ability to be current. Her voice can be many things.  That's all I'm saying hun and you can take it how you wanna

She was really in her bag on this. Bran is legit doing sick shit vocally on this song the more I listen. The light and airy tones in the backgrounds, the fuller tone she uses on the verses...

Then, at the end of her 1st verse, near the end of the phrase, her vibrato is fast, and she kinda slows the speed of it towards the end of it...

I've never heard anyone exercise that kind of control of their vibrato. It's just the way SHE does it, makes it so unique.
