the zero missions were completely optional and not necessary to progress in the story. I wish I knew that back then

I didn't care for that mission either. Only because the roads were disgusting and unpredictable. Too many steep turns and drops. One wrong move and you're driving off a cliff

Los Santos was def my fave. Las Venturas probably my least fav. It's gorgeous at night but other than the casinos there's not much else.
