How dumb can a person be? Who in their right mind would think a company would have to INCREASE their budget (on a movie that's probably not gonna break even) to have their editors slave more hours using more super computers to render to the mess for shits n giggles

The profit benefits in the longrun will far outweigh offending a small portion of people so having to invest a little more coin means nothing. CGI/animated films almost always go through several redesign stages anyway. Even if the design was flawless from the start there would still be a group of people someone unhappy about SOMETHING with the film. You can't please everybody...that's just reality, and that's what makes the shock and controversy easier to swallow.

They work perfectly in the digital/social media age.

This movie (like most movies) are never finished when they release trailers...which is why some movies get pushed back or shelved completely after multiple trailers.

you don't know wtf you're talking about. The character design of Sonic was finished. Sure... there could've been things not 100% done, more voice acting or some things that needed MINOR tweaking. But when they release a trailer it's done.
And if they had a AlTerNaTivE version it wouldn't have taken 7 damn months to get a trailer up.
They had to redesign their entire main character and METICULOUSLY edit every frame. Stupid country cracker
