Just Your Annual Reminder That Beyonc? Will Win an Oscar in Her Lifetime
BY JULIE MILLER
Just because six years have lapsed without Beyonc? Knowles appearing on the big screen (in live-action capacity at least) does not mean that the superstar songstress has given up on her pursuit of an Oscar, which was sidetracked in 2007 when Jennifer Hudson stole the spotlight (and hardware) for Dreamgirls. If there is one Oscar futures certainty, it is that the Grammy-decorated performer who seemingly attains everything she desires, will be the recipient of an Academy Award, for acting, songwriting, or a category she herself wills into existence. And on Wednesday, as awards season 2016 heats up, we learn that Queen Bey has been quietly working towards her extracurricular goal for the past year.
And just how exactly? By taking acting classes in both New York and Los Angeles, according to Us Weekly. Beyonc?, whose last film role was the lead in the 2009 relationship thriller Obsessed, is being especially particular about her return to the film screen, according to the same report. ?Bey?s looking for an iconic dramatic role,? stage-whispers the magazine?s source, who adds that she turned down a role in NBC?s triumphant The Wiz Live! ?She wants to make a film that?s socially relevant to African American rights.?
In other words, Bey is looking for a role that will both legitimize her as an actress, and if we are reading between the lines of this report, one that will qualify her for her fated awards run. In addition to the recent Beyonc? casting report for The Wiz Live!, a rumor recently swept the Internet that Bey would join forces with the Marvel universe for a superhero film. Proving that superheroes are beneath her career, Bey chose to play one on Halloween rather than for serious.
