From Cassie to Summer Walker, these girls are performing for audiences  for the first time and are horrible. In the 90's even the girls who whispered would give you performance, they worked their way performing at talent shows, schools, malls, church etc. 

Cassie was kind of the leader of a new wave of artists and how they debut. Up until Cassie, artist were mostly discovered from performing, she is literally one of, if not the first artist to get signed after making moves on social media/the internet. I wouldn't be surprised if she had never been on a stage before, not just on TV, but period.
