I'm not against celebrating all black people everywhere but what she said is wrong... Black history month was literally created to celebrate African Americans contribution to US history.
But we've always included Nelson Mandela for some reason... No lie I didn't know the man wasn't American until like 5th grade... I used to think he was born here somewhere and moved to Africa. I am intrigued to find out how he started being included into our schools for black history month. For some reason I feel like he used to be talked about in world history then someone said "oh he's black, lets just lump into black history so we won't have to spend too much time on him"

But I love what she did here
Our culture is stifled and Americanized. They even gave us a religion and cut off our ties to our ancestral spirituality
So I've never loved the idea of black history month being limited to the contributions we made to make our oppressors new attempt at a country comfy and prosperous. Whites love Feb tho, they get a big ki.
Our history goes past slavery, and it was stolen. All year long they're holding century old possessions and wealth. They're living the effects of they're history. But for 28 days We're watching all black cast movies and BET specials about key moments that happened within a 60 year span
I feel like Naomi doing this and connecting those parts creates unity and focus on the bigger picture.
I mean look at us here. "Oh black history month! Mandantory MLK thread! Rosa sat on the bus!"
Like ... I outgrew that years ago, I need to know WHY we even went thru all of that. Where did my aunts and uncles go that were on the ship going the other way? We all deaerve to put our pieces together.
