Cynthia Erivo, is an amazing singer, she's brilliant. With that being sad, this song should have been song by an African American. I don't know if its the fact that she's British, but I felt that she performed this song for a white audience. Clearly the audience is mostly white, but when singing a song as a slave talking about freedom, It needed some SOUL & Pain.

I think Fantasia would have done a better job with this song, and I think Fantasia was the better Celie on Broadway.
well she's definitely Harriet Tubman in the movie she was nominated for.. two times that night

Are u not aware of this?
jddjdjdjdjdjdjdjd
He really thought they got some random british girl up singing negro hymns and spirituals

Clearly neither of you two can read, I said "but when singing a song as a slave talking about her freedom it needed more soul and pain".

I know that she played Harriet Tubman, but I don't like the song. For both Celie and Harriet Tubman, when it came to the singing, her voice is just too "Pretty" and trained for me.

GLOCK

I love this song btw
Vonnie did u watch the Elton Jon mess?

I been meaning to watch
Harriet was decent. U know how the slave movies go

GLOCK

I actually saw her on broadway for celie
And you're off base :dead:

her voice is perfect for Celie,.
she literally belted and gave u pretty all throughout every song

she gave the pain that it needed

GLOCK

Also what does Harriet even sound like

she wasn't even a singer

god

And the whole black British girl playing an AA is silly to me

She's black.. she did great in the part..

Folks feed the division they used against us in the most silliest things

I could see if she was mixed looking

My relation to her nationality was cultural not racial, its more about her not being African American vs her being black.

From Mahalia Jackson, to Aretha, Patti, Whitney, Jennifer Holiday, Jennifer Hudson or Fantasia. There is a cultural aspect to the vocal stylings of a majority of Black Female vocalist, that has been passed down from slavery mostly through Gospel singing.

Cynthia Erivo did not give me that.. sorry not sorry.
