I've always been curious as to what Bran's thoughts are about Monica's talent. She always says especially during the IABTM era that she had so much soul and power but has never gone out of her way to go into detail about what Monica offers artistically or vocally like Monica has Brandy.

I was thinking the same. I know Brandy was very supportive of Monica during the Still Standing era, but aside from that, she hasnt really praised a Monica song or album for that matter. As far as artistic growth and creativity with her sound, Monica hasnt really challenged herself or grown vocally since After The Storm.

on the same token everyone doesn't have to be as willing to bend their sound
Monica does what she does well..
And that's what sets them apart imo

Monica sticks with the sound she built and rides that

For Monica, its more than just the sound though. Its her voice. Its nothing special. Good, but not special. She could sing When U Touch Me the exact same way as Brandy note for note and it still wouldnt have the same conviction or impact. Which is why Monica always and in this case is praising her voice. And ur right. Her very unflexible voice causes her to only fit one sound. But at the same time, Monica has never really been a creative. She always gives me "show up to the studio and sing the song" with her approach. It doesnt have a "Monica" touch, whatever that would be.

Her voice and tone is special and stands out
It's when she sings out of her range where she loses that special thing
Monica actually has a very versatile voice



And she doesn't have the technique or discipline to pull off when you touch me..

She could sing any Brandy song but of course it would be different.

Monica isn't someone who I would think of when I'm talking about "the greats." If Bran actually tried to match that same praise, it wouldn't even be genuine. Mon makes some good songs though...so maybe Bran can just say which one is her fav to return a compliment lol

Monica isn't creative vocally and doesn't think outside the box, nor does she take risks.. but does she really need to? She's a vocalist  that people in the hood really relate to.  Black folk just want you to sing. They don't need all that extra. That's why you hear a lot of non Brandy fans who support Monica always saying Brandy can't sing. Queen is above.
