It is a lake, people should always be careful in and on the water 
Especially when you are by yourself with a little child. And there is no one to help you if something happens.

Most lakes have signs posted about that fact.  If they aren't posted then the lake is held liable.

Well, from what we're hearing, she and her son went into the lake, came out and she went in there again. She should've/would've known the threat. Additionally, they can sue all they want, but they would have to prove that she actually drowned accidentally and didn't commit suicide purposely.

I don't know California law all that well but in Texas there are signs on lakes I would figure in most other states they would have the same thing.

It's similar to a slip and fall.  If there is no sign in the store and slip and fall you're held liable

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if she was kidnapped. Her 4 year old son was found sleeping on the boat..... It's hard for me to imagine him seeing his mom jump into the water not coming back up and then falling asleep.

I'd imagine a 4 year old being hysterical but then there is the case of her leaving her purse and phone in the car during a boat ride with just her son..... This is just too merch.
