During the manic episodes he needs to be committed
We have a hard time in healthcare with pysch patients bc if they are alert and oriented and hasn't expressed thoughts to harm themselves or anyone else they can refuse treatment.
The only time we can take them involuntarily is if they have expressed suicidal or homicidal threats. Then we can use force either with straps to restrain them or chemical sedation.
Behavior health treatment is more expensive than cancer treatment and there really is no way to make pts continue take meds once they are released
