I think some of you are referring to the mastering and not the mixing. All I've noticed is that scratch in the beginning of Rather Be and the beginning of No Tomorrow.

I guess the overall sound of the album is a bit grainy/lacks polish. That would be mastering?

But to my ear Borderline sounds lower/quieter than the rest of the songs, especially with No Tomorrow loud ass swooping in after. That would be the mix then?

It's alternative soul, for me.

Very alternative and experimental. Can't box it into just R&B that's for sure

It's inspirational too. She comes out on the other side by the end of the album. Through all of the dark topics she covered.

Incredible Album for me

:dead: we know King

Alternative soul is another good descriptor too though.

I'm curious, since I know you have a discerning ear, what do you think of the production? You notice the mixing issues or nah? You think it's comparable to her past work?
yes and i love the way the album is mixed :dead:

Brandy's ear is exceptional lmao if you don't think this album is mixed precisely how she wants it to be mixed than you'd be wrong IMO.

It may not be someone's preference, but it's all intentional. There's a difference.  There ain't no issue at all IMO

By the way, it was Co-engineered by a guy that literally works with EVERYONE. He would never put his name on some bullshit

Mixed like Half of the current Hot 100 songs and then some:

No not really because if you take the sound level differences on I am more and no tomorrow

"she can do what i can do"

and

"why i still feel so deep like back at the altar"

both of these vocal comps were not properly leveled with the rest of the leads during mixing

mastering cannot fix that because it addresses the mix as a whole
for other reasons

switched around

How two songs are mixed should be leveled out a bit when you master both because the master if its going to be on the same album should not have stark sound differences despite being 2 separate mixes

so the one being louder than the other is a mastering issue as well as track placement issue

which storyline wise its a dumb choice anyway to put no tomorrow after borderline
and that funky chime thats supposed to tie em together seamlessly annoys me

I think he did the best he could with what he had

and it seems like mastering the ball was just dropped

Yeah I guess I'm still kinda reeling that after an 8 year wait and them working on this album for over 3 the overall quality is pretty lacking. It's disappointing, but nothing to do about it now. Hopefully it's addressed in future efforts. Keeping camper around doesn't instill much confidence though given that the quality of most of his music is similar to this and he doesn't really seem like the most detail oriented person  :dead:

Oh well. I just feel better I'm not the only one hearing this or being too nitpicky. Really I just think Bran deserves the BEST and the quality of this album is beneath her. Happy she's getting her flowers and she's happy tho ♥️
