i care about the policy. i dont give a shit about the phrase "defund the police"

so if changing that phrase to something that accurately depicts the policy means that it imporoves the support of AND the likliehood of the policy being passed due to said support, then fuck that phrase.

because the POLICY is what matters. the POLICY is what is going to enact the change that we want to see in policing and how that effects our black and brown fam.

it is true that the phrase "defund the police" loses ppl (mainly dumb republicans)
IDK if he's saying he doesnt want to defund them but a lot of ppl get scared and think it means completely removing the police
instead of what it really means which is not spending soooo much money on them and using it elsewhere where funds are more useful

I'm supposed to care because somebody is too stupid to do simple research on what defunding means

but when we talk about education and teachers salaries it's DEFUND DEFUND DEFUND and ppl don't expect teachers to disappear. So why would all policy disappear when we say defund police?

He could have easily used his platform to explain what defunding means (even tho there are lots of sources that outline clear policies)

also, there are town and provinces who have done this successfully before

obama is saying be careful not to lose people on the messaging so that the policy has the best chance of being PUT IN PLACE

its not about coddling people. its about getting enough people on board so that... again
.. the policy is PUT IN PLACE.

as much as we try to explain what defund the police means, there are people out there working just as hard to confuse and misinform. and it works. changing this inaccurate ass name would be inconsequential to the actual POLICY (which is the only thing that actually matters) and would allow us to skip the redundant step of having to explain over and over again what "defunding the police"  actually means.
