Y'all know Aretha is from Memphis I would imagine her childhood churches did smell like nothing but soul food and they cooked and probably had small kitchens in the churches. Black people back then were very resourceful, ate together in large groups and loved getting together on Sundays and immediately eating afterwards ...it was .. and still is, to some extent part of the black culture.

Bentley. HARRIS!

but guys it was a loaded question too

I feel like Aretha really wanted to slap the white bitch

"hehe old books and hymnals AHAHA!"

I've been to churches that smelled like food and ones that smelled like old books. The ones that smelled like food is usually the ones that were having refreshments afterwards.

Her church probably had food after every service.

Yup!

My church used to have a soup kitchen during the week for the less fortunate... and sometimes we would have dinner in between services. Even when we didn't, they  would sell dinners for the never-ending "building fund" .    :plzstop:

So I remember smelling food more than anything else. Shit I liked to eat more than I liked going to church service.
