and Eva Longoria has been tapped to help

Here's Why Many Are Weary Of Kenya Barris & Eva Longoria's 'Brown-Ish' Spin-off 'Concept That Is in Development'

The critically acclaimed comedy TV series black-ish might be expanding into another spin-off show, according to Craig Erwich, President of ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals.

Currently, writer and producer Kenya Barris, who created black-ish, is brainstorming ideas with producer and actress Eva Longoria to produce brown-ish featuring a modern Latinx family. The series would mark Barris' third spin-off of black-ish after grown-ish and mixed-ish.

"Brown-ish is still a concept that is in development," Erwich told Deadline. "We haven't rolled out the firm plans around that yet."

Another spin-off, old-ish, featuring Laurence Fishburne and Jenifer Lewis' characters from black-ish, was also an idea that was in development, but Erwich now says ABC has "no current plans to make it a pilot."

"When we talk about the world of black-ish, there are so many different iterations that we are open to,"

Erwich says. "It's really up to Kenya who is the master and the captain of the franchise."

Some Twitter users were quick to question what a term like "brown-ish" even means for the Latinx community.

Others wondered why "brown-ish" stories were only being categorized as Latinx stories.

If brown-ish does end up getting greenlit, there are some people anticipating ABC will simply cast "white Latinos."

Behind the camera as a producer and director, Longoria has been keeping busy. She is currently in pre-production on the Richard Montañez biopic Flamin' Hot, a story which has recently been questioned on its veracity. She is also executive producing The Gordita Chronicles pilot for HBO Max, which is based on the childhood of Latina journalist Claudia Forestier.

it's commonly used for latinos here in America.

that's what american ppl mean when u see them saying "black and brown".

i think they should drop the color from the title cuz there's SO much to unpack from that alone...and not in a good way

call it taco-ish or something.

i agree with one of the twitter gorls who said mess about ethnicity....

latino isn't a race ...it's an ethnicity/culture

a taco can be Black, White, Native American or a mix of all three.

pushing the "latino" thing into a color is kinda regressive

and a reason why an African American may get pushback if they say "i know latinos who say n*gga and i'm OK with it"

people AUTOMATICALLY picture j-lo or ricky martin in their head having fun with the "n" word, whether they'd like to admit it or not
as opposed to someone who looks like Amara Negra.

someone who will undoubtedly have a black experience in america, regardless of them speaking spanish.

!!!!!  :dead:

If they're gonna do a spin-off for the tacos, they can at least call it "latin-ish"..... because Hispanics/Latinos come in several shades and colours. Brown-ish?  :uhh:
