That's an all-time low since the iconic awards show started back in 2001.
The lackluster showing follows similarly problematic ratings from other awards show staples, including the Academy Awards (i.e., the Oscars), the Grammy Awards, and the American Music Awards (AMAs), all of which hit ratings nadirs in 2021. Now, the BET Awards becomes the latest awards show to post all-time lows, raising more questions about the once-reliable awards format.

To match that drop the BET awards would have brought in less than 1.85M viewers

I mean.... did people even know it was on? BET didn't even promote it.
They say this about every award show, every year.
Ratings will hit another all time low in 2022. That's just how it is now.
Award shows should get with the times
Most young adults don't have cable
They need to start partnering with streaming services, like was the mess even on YouTube this year?
People just waited for the performances and mess to hit youtube. Idk, i still enjoy watching these shows in their entirety

I think part of the problem is the notion of "superstars" is dated. No one is pressed to see live performances by today's artists.
