We don't need this film tbh. The original is a black classic; Hollywood needs to learn to leave shit alone. Turning this into a real musical for the screen isn't a good idea to me. Celie is one THEE best roles written for a black actress.

No shit! I actually attended the premiere in Chicago. Chicago and dreamgirls were broadway shows first and from many years ago. I had no issue with it becoming a musical for the stage, with it becoming a film its basically a remake and we dont need it. The color purple is a film that's been mainstay in black households and still reair on tv like its new its very fresh in our minds.
Dreamgirls was a huge hit on stage but still had a limited reach because of the era it was put out. So the film was needed imo, many people never seen it on stage.
