I'm only including the references to Brandy.
QuoteYou've been Grammy nominated 18 times in 24 years, this year included. How does that feel?
It's just another day. I'm thinking about 2030, I don't even know why people are still in 2022. I'm thinking, "What sound am I gonna come up with eight years from now?" I'm thinking that, man, R&B could really be at the top of the food chain. By 2025, it could be at the top of the pop charts. It's creeping, up thanks to [artists] like Muni Long with "Hrs And Hrs." That opens up the doors for more people to respect that sound and utilize it.
I try not to live in the past, but I do understand [24] years of being nominated for Grammys is kind of a big thing. I consider it a blessing to be able to be impactful to other careers, because at the end of the day, there's plenty of Grammy success where I might not have had that gold [gramophone] in my hand, but Whitney had it in her hands, or Brandy and Monica had it in their hands. And I know that I'm the one who picked up that record. Touching so many different artists' careers from every era is amazing.
QuoteHow do you continue to stay relevant throughout all the shifts in R&B and pop music?
The mentality is to constantly keep reinventing yourself. There's a big difference between Brandy's Never Say Never and Full Moon, but yet they're only three years apart. "The Boy Is Mine" sounds nothing like [Michael Jackson's] "You Rock My World" or "Say My Name" or Lady Gaga's "Telephone" or Beyoncé's "Deja Vu," and that's 15 years later. You've got to keep going back in the field, keep digging for new sounds, and penetrate the market in a new way. [That's] how you stay fresh as you keep working with younger, fresh artists as well.
QuoteYou and Harvey Mason Jr., the current CEO of The Recording Academy, played a huge role in bringing Auto-Tune into the R&B realm. How did that happen?
I met Harvey around 1997. I was executive producing Brandy's Never Say Never album. Harvey was actually one of the only producers who had a cut on that album. He approached me about becoming the in-house-producer-slash-engineer for my company. He became my engineer on many projects — Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Britney Spears — from 1998 all the way to 2002. Seeing him young and the passion he had, I could always tell that he was going to be someone different.
That was a time where technology was being birthed. I remember clearly when Cher came out with "Believe," her voice was going through what was called Auto-Tune, which no one knew about. After that, I told Harvey I wanted to find that same effect, and put it on Brandy's voice for the remix of "You Don't Know Me (Like You Used To)." I wanted to be the first person to use it in R&B music. And we did it, we were the first ones. Even T-Pain credits me for it.
QuoteWhen you produce for newer artists, do they ever reference your older songs?
All the time. I don't even like that, to be honest. They should probably do that with somebody else. I think it would be more clever if I heard it from a different perspective. Spotify asked us to do a Full Moon tribute with Brandy for the song "When You Touch Me," they wanted us to do it over and I was like, "Nah, pass on that. That's not something I want to do. But you should have London on Da Track do it." I think it would be genius to hear how he'd re-imagine that song.
:flamebroiled:When you touch me
I don't want to hear London ruin "When You Touch Me". :uhh:
DAMN RODNEY TRYING TO SABOTAGE HIS OWN MASTERPIECE. :shannonsmissing:

I HONESTLY THINK IT'S MORE ON BRANDYS PART THOUGH.
I FEEL SHE CAN BE QUITE PETTY AND HOLD ON TO STUFF LOL.
I honestly don't think Bran cares about Rodney at this point in life. Nor will I push all the animosity to her side. He's def been shady over the years and she has as well. He gives control freak vibes and honestly I don't think he ever really let go of Brandy messing with his cousin, especially because I think he was attracted to her (my own conspiracy).
I don't think Brandy really owes him anything, nor is she carrying a grudge. Maybe he's not her cup of tea and vise versa. Brandy has proven herself beyond Rodney, and I think that rubs him.
Fat motherfucker.

He's absolutely disgusting. Even if he doesn't use Brandy, it's not fair to others who were involved in these projects nor is it to their actual work.

Human wasn't bad and it's not Rodney or Brandy's fault, The industry
purposely didn't push Brandy
their focus was "Single Ladies" and Lady Gaga

It's honestly okay for them to not occupy the same space anymore. They created exceptional music. They've grown in separate directions personally. Their artistic legacy can't be denied. Brandy is happy, at peace and is cementing herself as legend she was always destined to become. Everything is irrelevant.

Without a doubt. Rodney seems to have taken her rejection/dismissal very personally where Brandy clearly doesn't think it's that deep.
Rodney is just....
Sure make it sound cute talking about Brandy was the first to ever use auto tune in rnb ... but we all see this as shade. Brandy has been bragging in recent years that full moon came out before auto tune .... Now you saying she's responsible for debuting it years earlier on You Don't Know Me remix...
I do hope that full moon album is getting fully re-recorded with new producers ... leave Rodney off it
Also I hope when you touch me isn't the full moon 20 we've been waiting for... I neeed more then just that
Lmao the narratives yall create

It's truth to the narratives. A lot of his actions speak for themselves imo. Brandy called Rodney her musical husband on her reality show, and they both had this inside joke kinda laugh that has always made me question things.

It's pretty common for musical collaborators to fuck... but I think Brandy choose Mike not Rodney

lol she had to because it was! Auto tune came out late 98 with Cher's "believe" Brandy used it in 99 for the first time, that's probably what he's talking about.
After the verzuz with Monica in 2020, Brandy started following Rodney on Instagram(they both were not following each other before).... It's like she was trying to reconnect with him again, she even 'liked' a number of his posts about his kids and stuff,... But after about a week, she unfollowed him again, I guess he gave her a cold response

Yea, she extended the olive branch but I guess he was expecting a steak at the end of it. Fuck his fat ass.
To be able to finally give Justice to one of your most praised songs you've produced and you decline really does speak volumes on his bitterness towards Brandy. Giving me trying to stop her bag vibes!🤡

I honestly didn't post the interview to rehash the Brandy vs Rodney feud.
I actually posted the article for the details Rodney shared about the recording process of NSN and FM, as well to highlight that it appears there sort of Full Moon tribute happening via Spotify, which I thought some might find interesting and be excited about
Anyway, carry on lol
