I also think it's amazing that the US finally had a Black president and I'm sure he's done a few great things for the nation and stuff.
However, over the last 8 years I've seen a man who's supposed to be the most powerful man in the world become a fucking celebrity and socialite. Appearing on Ellen, inviting Traci Braxton to the Whitehouse, becoming bosom buddies with Black Hollywood.
Was this normal presidential behaviour? I didn't take notice to presidents before Obama, so I don't really know.

The difference is, Obama is just a lot younger, charismatic and sociable. Plus he became president in the age where FB, Insta, Twitter etc blew up

Trump is a walking ad campaign for the entitled white folks who are tired of seeing a black man in office. He does a good job of speaking for that audience, but they don't represent all of America.
And like Drais said, this is the age of social media fueled by the youth. You need the younger crowd behind you in order to secure that vote, which is why Hillary is hitting the nae nae on Ellen and Bernie is on the Breakfast Club with Charlamagne and nem.

I think I see what you're seeing
but it's not because of Obama's social status or anything he's done. Cause overall he's been a great president.
most of his criticism sadly does stem from the fact that he is a black man that loves black culture
and growing up in America there was always classes and social systems set in place.
stemming back to when even the dirtiest white person could drink from the best fountain, while no blacks allowed signs were hanging. which is why black in America always say we HAVE to excel and be 10 x greater to even get a chance.
Obama and his wife, as hard working are they are were criticized for every single move.
and of course, that DID open the door for a radical asshole like Trump to even attempt presidency, because after a "black" president.... because... white ppl have lost it and are literally scrambling :dead:
If you listen to most of the other GOP candidates, they are in somewhat disbelief as well that he's not only competing but beating them.

It's normal for a US president to be on a talk show or 2 every now and then when he's running for office or when he wants to push a new bill that he really wants the American public to know about and agree with him on. Michelle was on quite a few talk shows. She's not a politician, so she doesn't have to be as serious all the time in her role. But she goes on tv mostly to promote getting fit 'cause that's her platform. Get America's children more healthy.
I'm sure Pres. Obama did not personally invite Traci Braxton to The White House. It was some kind of black history celebration they were doing and different people were in there for different reasons.
Pres. Obama has always been treated like a celebrity, though, since he first ran for pres. It's probably because he used social media so much to connect to young people. But he's still the president. And he's actually accomplished quite a bit considering the other party fought his every idea so hard.
he hasn't ruined anything any more than some of his predecessors. but i do feel he could've gotten more done in his first two years when he actually had both houses of congress. but no, he had to stick with one his stupid campaign red lines about not signing a bill into law unless one republican signs on to it as well. and that's the reason we got a screwed up health care law. he should've put single-payer or the public option into law. instead we got mandated health care. and on top of that, penalties up to $695 or more if we don't have insurance. and the shit ain't even as affordable as he claims. at least for the middle class that is.
and another thing, in his first two years before the republicans took over congress, he could've gotten a jobs bill, infrastrucure bill, cut defense and pentagon spending so these gotdamn wars wouldn't keep continuing. i swear, as time goes by, with our drone policies and meddling into other countries, america is making the world more unsafe.
i guess you can say, i had more hope for the obama years than obama himself could give to us. i really expected better from him. and now, i'm more leary of politicians than i ever was.
Obama actually added esteem and pride back into the office after the 2 terms of Bush. It's just that he's black and will always be over criticized despite his many triumphs during his stay in office.

Obama has modernized the presidency and has made the presidency seem more human IMO. And even with Republican obstruction at every turn, he was able to pass universal healthcare (others haven been trying for 30 years or more), marriage equality, etc. how could he ruin the presidency when the guy before him left the country and its image in shambles.

but i do think "celebrity" and popularity does play a MUCH bigger role than ever has though. Same thing with music (although a much lower scale) if you think about it. People need and want someone with a a strong personality. Those are the kind of people getting tons of support these days
I think sometimes people see a President as some sort of dictator.
There's a lot of hoops that needs to be jumped through before anything a President is proposing goes through.
