Omg, literally, same here. I'm always on honor roll and all of my friends are white/asian and I am constantly referred to as an "oreo", or "too smart" or people are always asking me if my shoulder length straightened hair is real....

I literally never fit in with black people in my school, I don't talk like them, or share anything In common with them other than my skin. I usually shift towards the white kids and Asians lol

A lot of black people would give legnth if they straightened their hair. It's not growth that hinders the legnth it's the shrinkage of kinky hair that makes it look short .

Just watched. I hate when people act like certain things are exclusive to Black people. Colorism exists in many ethic groups. There are just as many white people running around claiming to be a direct descendant of Pocahontas with no receipts as there are Black.

seems like it was an effort to breakdown some of the common stereotypes, imo.
But a lot of black people don't handle criticism well, especially when its about how they treat their own.

i believe in racism, and stereotypes for sure. it exists. no debates there.

however, for me, i think a lot of disconnect between individuals comes down to socio-economics and internal/external resources (opportunities)
that's where i see the most stereotypical stuff coming from

culture, genetic-makeup in general, is something will connect each group though

Yeah this is common for everyone to do, and they're all valid honestly.

Having the same skin color/ethic background doesn't mean you're gonna always connect or relate to each other. People have different experiences growing up and I respect someone who'd ask me a question before just labeling me off of something they saw on a TV screen.

A lot of black people who get labeled as bougie usually have some internalized resentment from being rejected by other black people in their own communities.

I've heard someone call my friend that, the bougie word
I think its unjust and ignorant
IMO, it comes as if a black person can't be successful and intellectual and possess certain things in life, as if ONLY a white person can live "this or that"

:udontlookok:

And there are definitely some people who enjoy turning their noses up and looking down on others, but alot of these gurs turned out the way they are based on their experiences and interactions with other people of the same race growing up. I'm not gonna come for the "ghetto" or "bougie" girls. They didn't choose to be that way for the most part.

I can't really blame Timothy for being "bougie" after growing up in a predominately black school system and being outcasted by his community because he liked soccer instead of basketball, preferred rock to hip hop and wore vests and suits instead of jordans/baggy mess.

Alot of people carry that into their adulthood subconsciously.

I won't blame Keisha for being "ghetto" either for being shipped off to private school her whole life not and being able to relate to all the diversity and being outcasted because she grew up and was only exposed to a certain black culture.

The video is definitely valid. Some questions may be ehhh but alot were on point.  I feel like black people are harder on black people than anybody else sometimes. It aint always about socioeconomic, opportunities, blah blah blah. A girl wont perm her hair and alot would swear she's mother earth,  india arie or some shit.  That monolithic comment,  alot of black people voted for obama just on the strength of him being black and definitely :uhh: at other black people for voting any other way.  I don't think ud hear too many white, asian, WHATEVER give intelligence this negative connotation and use it in a way to question their whiteness :dead:
Im sure they aren't saying with the video that this shit is true for every black person ever, but it happens enough that it warrants discussing DEFINITELY

From my experience, I've seen some black people taunt and antagonize other black people who are "different" or "alternative". That can lead to bitterness, embarrassment, and wanting to disassociate yourself for feeling rejected by those within your own race.  These people weren't necessarily wealthy either, just working class folk who were perceived as different.

Not that their internalized resentment is the right way to go about things.

socio-enonomics plays a huge part baby
an upperclass black individual and a lower-class individual will MOST LIKELY have different opportunities, resources, interests, friends, and outlook on life

and they both will have stereotypical thoughts about their OWN race... just based on their socio-economics and what they may have been exposed to. same thing with CULTURE. black people with different cultures don't always mix on their views. The caribbean black individuals vs. american-born black individuals can be worlds apart on how they grew up, etc.

It's definitely not just some MONEY thing. Alot of black people give other black people these particular characteristics or parameters to stay within. U listen to rock music wtf is wrong with u? Skateboard and Bungee jumping, that's some white people shit. Individualty isn't celebrated in black america and if this was another kinda thread people would be in here agreeing. Let it  had been this uber masculinity thing black men are forced to adhere to, people would be in here disgusted, plea.

I'm all for black pride. But this whole "we, as black ppl, gotta do better" attitude is ridiculous. We're all inherently different from one another. Don't assume you KNOW me or can KII with me because we're both black. Have a conversation with a person and see them as a human (not any of their labels) and judge them from those standpoints.

IDK but I feel like things just need to be discussed a bit more often so the gurs wouldn't get so offended all the time. If we claim to be so "woke" these days then why are we as a community still such a mess? Seems like the gurs would rather wallow in misery and off each other, stay divided and blame the government and honkies for our problems instead of coming together as a community to try and make some change. We all know things were put in place to keep blacks down and out of power in America, but alot of gurs seem to be satisfied with it.

you don't have to be the same race to have a conversation about something
it's unjust

I can't really blame Timothy for being "bougie" after growing up in a predominately black school system and being outcasted by his community because he liked soccer instead of basketball, preferred rock to hip hop and wore vests and suits instead of jordans/baggy mess.

Alot of people carry that into their adulthood subconsciously.

I won't blame Keisha for being "ghetto" either for being shipped off to private school her whole life not and being able to relate to all the diversity and being outcasted because she grew up and was only exposed to a certain black culture.

People are just different

:19k:

The video wreaks of that looking down on others thing you touched on. After watching some of the other clips, I can see these videos were done in jest. But being that black people are some of the most oppressed humans in history, we don't need to be highlighting a bunch of stereotypes for ppl to kii at.

I didn't get TOO much of that honestly.

It's hard to base a conversation off of what stereotypes exist between a group of people because stereotypes, while some do stem from what we see in reality, are never going to be completely true. The ppl in the videos are living proof of that. And that makes it seem like stereotypes aren't even a real, tangible issue. So there's nothing even to discuss or a problem to solve. Perception is the real issue.

Alot of these are pretty valid honestly.

Some of the questions were valid, some of them sound like shit bougie black people bring up to try and distance themselves from other black people.

fvvvv

Anybody that isn't seen as stereotypically black growing up in the black community is automatically labeled bougie though. We probably would be.

!!!

A lot of black people who get labeled as bougie usually have some internalized resentment from being rejected by other black people in their own communities.

maybe
but not from what I've seen
if anything, people perceive successful black friends/family in a different way and place them in that "bougie" area. not the other way around.

It can go both ways.

Wow. You slay.  :ohwow:

This is the sole reason why many biracial white/Black people are quick to blend into the Black community and raise their fist as a Black person. Their exotic features are worshipped by Blacks, Blacks are quick to claim mixed people as "Black"....."Oh she Black. She just light skindeeded and got some good hurr. That's all. She still just BLACK. :justabit: She one of us ya'll!!! representin!!!!!!! heyyy!"

Why wouldn't they want to hang among Black people? And claim Black and nothing else. They're just seen as tainted mutts by other side of their families usually.  :dead: And many of them are discarded or grow up in white communities where they're treated like cow shit. Many people don't understand how someone could hate their own race but they never take the time to consider these possibilities.

Ok. So I won't address you Vonc. You don't have to acknowledge my presence either.
But I won't be silent.

I don't make blanket statements about any race. I believe in individual experience.
I do believe culture and genetic-make up connects the social classes for sure.
But experience, resources and opportunities make the difference.

When I think of Afro alone... the fact that he's ambitious, successful, a beautiful person and shit the fact that we're perched on a forum/movement that he CREATED was not by accident. I'm sure he had the support of family, friends and resources/knowledge that not every individual gets. That alone changes his views on life. You can't just lump all blacks together. Get out of here!

Awww  I will say that my grandmother sacrificed so we could have the best. She paid for private schooling, made sure we were nicely dressed, etc.

And she wasn't rich or even very comfortable financially but she saw the importance of what she was doing. Even though we didn't understand it. She's the strongest woman I know. Scratch that, the strongest PERSON I know and I owe everything I am or ever will be to HER. And I tell her that almost every time I speak to her. Because she deserves it.

Beautiful self.

Of course it doesn't if you aren't black, lol. I still value your input and opinion.

It is cute to have people like you who don't stereotype and know that regardless of color, each person is just that, their own person. But between society and the media we just aren't treated or viewed that way. Even blacks have been conditioned to self hate and separate themselves from other blacks.

well Ralf you CAN sometimes give "above" or "privileged" teas when discussing these issues

I've just always assumed you're a Hilton, or maybe a Walton

but you have a good heart cause you seem to simplify these issues when it just isn't realistic

But there's a difference in showing support to a community and then speaking on their own experiences as if you can relate. It's so easy to say we all as human beings are awarded opportunities and can make the best of life, but in reality there are systems & laws purposely put in place from eons ago that affects and holds down certain demographics and groups of people.

Either way I still value what you have to say.

I agree.

And I don't know how people are taking what I say. But I feel I mainly stand for NON-blanket statements. I'm against it. I never discuss issues as if I can relate to it in depth. I don't discuss anything about myself on this forum, in general. And people can attack all day for it, not speak to me, whatever. There's no big mystery. Always been this way. I think it's best that I just don't discuss these topics anymore, to be fair.

I have to say blacks kinda need stop jumping down a non black gurs throat just because they have an opinion. As long as they're offering support I don't see the problem. If they say something wrong just try to educate a bit instead of running them off.

I agree. That's why I wanna know who all the whites are on here that have been ganged up on for their opinions.

Ralf that was well after u continued to evade a simple question. And even that had nothing to do with your race. It was about your lack of transparency while engaging with us. It's not cool. You know what we are, but we can't know what you are? But you want us to continue conversing with you about these things? No.

That statement was less to do with race and more to do with u giving no basis for ur opinions. Uve conveniently bypassed every post that said we welcome opinion and discussion from other races and how that can actually add to the convo. Ur in here selecting what u want to addressand skipping all over the rationale and logic that's being provided to u. Uve already said that it's best that u don't engage in these discussions. Well, I think most people feel welcomed to speak their minds. At the end of the day, I think people just like to know the basis of an argument. Where is it coming from? How closely are you tied with the issue? Etc. If you cant provide that then, ehh...there's really no point of the "discussion"

Let me address this once here... there is no big mystery. :dead:

A bitch just wants to protect his career. Something I worked hard for.
I just choose to keep my life private. Off social media (of any kind).
:letsmessfag:
Some people post ass pics, their life stories, their jobs, their whatever... I think that's strange.
I don't post anything... and some people think that's strange.
It is what it is.
And I ain't changing shit.
:letsmessfag:

Whoever fucks with me, fucks with me, whoever doesn't, doesn't.
Simple as that. But I won't force anyone to have conversations with me, if they feel short-changed. Tell me to move right along, and I'll do just that! Simple. I'm good. :dead:

Ralf hun it isn't that serious. Disclosing your race isn't gonna get you fired, and if you consider Bsource some sort of extended family mess like so many other members do then it shouldn't be alarming if people wanna get to know you.

It doesn't make sense to engage in all these personal topics only to be elusive when someone asks you a simple personal question.

And that's why I'm saying I won't do this threads anymore. It's not that serious.

But you don't agree.

Either way I'm not going to press the issue. You're grown and decide what to do with your mess.

I need to go exercise.

This was stupid point blank.

I don't use the N word but I know why people do it.

As a child I knew why other kids didn't get why I talked "proper".

So I don't understand why a bunch of grown ass adults are trying to act like the dont "get it"

It's late.

Is it really a thing that being well
Spoken is deemed "white"???

I think a lot of the gorls do actually talk "white" and not educated and get called out for it. Dr. Umar Johnson, Barrack Obama or Ben Carson sound very black to me and are very eloquent.

But then there are black punk rock gurs who in fact sound Caucasian, i think they like to believe they speak in an educated fashion when that's not necessarily the case.

ok...
fff do you blame them?
Your quite vocal in the racism threads, "Not all whites are the same!" "but guys? remember, not all whites..!" but in a thread were people are disclosing their own experiences you want to play the casper card  :kii:
I don't see how you telling us such a vague detail as to whether your white or black is going to "expose" you or your "career" :uhh: ffff in fact it would have been quite useful since you love to play the 'oh dont know whats going on guys!!' "what's hap'nen!!!" role quite often...maybe one of the gorls in here could have sat you down and  educated you a bit if your really wanted to understand
How do you expect anyone to receive you well when you turn up to the party in an invisibility cloak  :19k:

A bitch just wants to protect his career. Something I worked hard for.
I just choose to keep my life private. Off social media (of any kind).

Simple. I'm good. :dead:

I actually don't have a problem with him either,  this just wasnt the thread for his mess.  How the hell u wanna sit in here and speak so eloquently on the black experience when #1 you're probably not even black and #2 U refuse to even disclose your race.  His comments have no foundation and we can't have a proper conversation until i know where u fall at in all of this.  Then skipping over logical posts and playing the victim.  Boy, gtfo and let the real people continue the conversation, manufactured self

Simple. I'm good. :dead:

Pretty much agreed!
f
Did u come into the thread to respond to the topic or just search for a post u can cosign and call us all unimportant and how u don't care :dead:
Like what you and everybody else does towards me? Oh ok
...
Just like "niggers" Yall take offense to when someone doesn't agree with yall. I actually agree with what he said.... just because Yall don't have a career, job, etc. Of course Yall wouldn't know about keeping things private.... he's not worried about yall, but Yall are...... :plea:
...
And I have a career-job to get back to, so please continue to fume with your "friends" amongst yourselves... :ohhey:
:kii:
I just thought it was kinda weird that u came into 20+ pg thread and didn't see fit to discuss any of what we're talkin about in here.  :dead:
U literally quoted a post that was in the last couple of pgs and bypassed all the meat of the thread.  It's like u purposely come into threads and look for a reason to bring up your job, house,  etc.......oh and say u dont care and everyone else is a loser. :kii:
It just seems to me that someone so set on keeping things surface level, goes outta his way to get personal.
i dunno

it may be a rags to riches story

he said his dead dad left him everything so i can understand why hes such an emotional person

sad tbh. maybe it can be a logo or centric movie.

praying for him btw

I actually don't have a problem with him either,  this just wasnt the thread for his mess.  How the hell u wanna sit in here and speak so eloquently on the black experience when #1 you're probably not even black and #2 U refuse to even disclose your race.  His comments have no foundation and we can't have a proper conversation until i know where u fall at in all of this.  Then skipping over logical posts and playing the victim.  Boy, gtfo and let the real people continue the conversation, manufactured self

Some of the questions were obviously stated for comedic relief but there are some that are valid. Particularly the mental health, black owned businesses and not being "black enough" questions are so true.

A question they didn't ask that I need to know: Why are black people so damn judgmental? :uhh: It's like they judge everything around them but when it's time to discuss things within their communities everyone is running away. I don't get it.

I deserve the lashings in this thread (and particular circumstance) based off my choice/right to remain private in general, regardless of the reason. Even tho I am and have always been private.
:dead:

And I'll continue to promote my disbelief in making blanket statements about ANY race  (black, white, Asian, etc) amongst my family, friends and individuals outside of this forum. It's unfair to everyone here to do otherwise.

Malcolm. I can take a lot of lashings and mess.

But anything coming from you, considering the hours I spent deleting gifs and personal info about you when people were dragging you and you came crying to me in PMs...

I haven't done anything to anyone. Or ever asked anyone about their personal status, race, sexual orientation. Just let me have the right to be private and no longer engage in conversation. I think that's fair.
