Michael Jai White is clearly a vet in Hollywood. With film and television hits like Blac Dynamite and For Better or Worse under his belt, he's earned his bones, but the actor made one thing clear during a recent interview: he does not want an Oscar.
Speaking with Bossip, he explained his stance by saying Black actors or actresses who have been either nominated or won an Oscar have not had a successful acting career since.
"Is there an Oscar nominee or Oscar winner who's Black whose career has ever been enhanced by the win of a nomination," he started. "Somebody please tell me, because I can't think of one person."
This is when the actor started naming names ? from Angela Bassett to Terrence Howard ? and things got a little shady.
"I'll tell you what, the majority who's gotten an Oscar, it's signified the end of their career," he said. "Angela Bassett got nominated for What's Love Got to Do With It. What has she done bigger than that since then? Cuba Gooding Jr., Oscar winner. What has he done since then? Lou Gossett Jr., what? Jennifer Hudson, what? Terrence Howard, what was the next movie that it launched him into? For the love of God, please do not nominate me for an Oscar!"

Is this faggot serious :uhh:
He told not one lie but that says more about the system then the actual winning of the award. Hollywood is racist as fuck.
He has a point but he shouldnt have disrepected their careers like that. He's not an A list actor his damn self
I'll add sexist as well because there are a lot of Female winners whom are white that has one and aren't really doing much either.

Hollywood isn't fair, this is no secret but an oscar nod definitely doesn't END anyone's career. Who is in indie flicks? An EXTRA :dead:
U know some roles are introduced in one film to be developed in the next, right? I mean and even if she was just an extra, what's the alternative? Being on fckn OWN :dead:

Yeah, he did. It's not like their career took some major hit after an Oscar because of some Oscar curse. There aren't very many good, well written roles for black actors and actresses. There will continue to not be a lot of roles after the person wins an Oscar. Even securing a role that's big in the mainstream and that has enough depth to be seen as Oscar worthy is like striking gold for black actors.

Sean Connery is retired. Kate Winslet picks her roles very sporadically because of her kids. What Michael Jai White doesn't understand is that a lot of these actors are parents and mostly shoot movies during the summer when their kids are out of school. He sounds bitter to me.

Here's the deal with actors: Most actors pick and choose roles they want to play. Actors get scripts daily, their agent gets the calls. But the main issue is that we need more screenwriters, producers, and directors of color within the film industry. There are lots of talented folks out there and if they break out by doing indie films that could go to film festivals such as Sundance, Tribeca, Cannes, etc. That's how you make moves. Keep pushing. But there are white actors who don't get a lot of work as well and they've won Academy Awards. Nicholas Cage is a prime example and he's part of film royalty by being related to Francis Ford Coppola. He doesn't book big roles either and he won an Oscar 20 years ago for Leaving Las Vegas.

An academy award recognizes your work in ONE FILM. It's no secret that Hollywood is all about who u know and networking. She definitely has had doors open to her because she was literally plucked from obscurity and there is no way she would have had these opportunities had it not been for this academy award. She still needs to build relationships and prove herself viable. It sounds dumb that she would go from having little to no credits to lead actress in every movie she's in. I just don't think u guys sound realistic. And he said winning the academy award signified the end of ur career but it was LITERALLY the beginning of hers. And as i said, maybe she chose those roles for a reason. She is still in large production ass movies and this is UNDOUBTEDLY because she won that award. The roles are "so small" yet they feel the need to put her name in the promo. The bitch is working and winning, plea
Well of course they would put her name in the promo, she's an award winning actress
Doesn't mean her role is significant lol
Thats the point, it doesnt mean the role is significant. It means SHE is :dead:
Not really
They coulda had anyone voice the bitch wolf, as the role isn't significant
Are u helping me prove point or what? Yes, it couldve been anyone yet they PAID to get this bitch and throw her name in the credits to boost the star power of the film even more. Like EXACTLY :dead:
girl
I doubt people are going to see the film because of 'pit
but u just said the role had lil to no significance and ANYONE couldve done it. Why pay that girl's fee when u can pay significantly less to just ANYONE? Hollywood aint in the business of giving money away. They definitely added her to add to the star power of the film, like :dead:
When i saw her name i instantly became more interested in it and that's exactly what attaching someone's name to a project can do
look. 'pita begged for that role, that's why she got it. ok?

She still needs to put in WORK she went from literally being in nothing to being on stage and a part of these iconic ass films, and the face of shit. What u guys are talking about just doesn't sound realistic tbh
I think that's kinda the point that Michael was making; actors of colors have to work twice as hard as their white counterparts even with the aid of a coveted oscar nomination. The playing field has never been equal.

If that was his point, he conveyed it really shitty. I don't disagree with hollywood being harder on black actors. Ive said in here time and time again if he had tweaked what he said maybe i couldve agreed with him.
But based on what he did say, the shit wasn't true and he also sounded bitter af. Bitter in a real passive aggressive way
don't give me no oscar, PLEASE!
Most of those he named are older though so there isn't much roles. TV is the future anyways when it comes to quality.

Yeah, the shade was a bit much but I don't think he was trying to shit on their careers or anything.
