I mean...
it feels kinda weird to me.
when she died, the week after she only sold 26K ( of ALL her albums).. and that was it.
she got 1 min tribute at bet by chante, 1 minute tribute at the billboard music awards..
and .. it's ... over?
nothing more, no documentary, no little movie, no nu album... i feel like there's no recognition for her at all.
Like even when you look at the pictures of singers that people want back on instagram.. you will never find her..
it's like..a bit.. weird..
i have my theory about me.. but before i write an article about it..
i want to have your opinions guys.
She was never the superstar Diana and Tina were and spent most of her later years in recluse, but I would love to see her biopic.
:stressed:
Thought she was still alive tbh
Donna summer is from the disco era which is discounted and disregarded. People liked her and some still do but her being overlooked isn't surprising, that whole era of music is disregarded
I wouldn't say nobody cares because she has fans all over the world, but she wasn't really R&B. Disco/Pop was her main genres.
A Donna Summer biopic would be so good, though.
Crayons (Deluxe Edition) is coming out this month.
Right! Donna summer is extremely popular so saying no one cares is silly. There are just some people who are revered in music. Donna summer is not michael jackson, whitney, or prince

I could see Kelly playing her in the biopic.

She had some success in the 80s as well but yea her whole career is primarily disco. She was VERY successful during the disco era. she's actually known as the queen of disco so when disco got that backlash, she was caught up in it. She sang her ass off tho. When Vh1 was still doing all those divas live concerts, she actually got her own show. I watched that shit like wow, this old lady singing her ass off :dead:
Matter fact, i bought that live album after seeing that show :plzstop:
Donna always seemed more like an international/overseas sensation and not as embedded in the (African-)American world as some of her peers. She lived in Germany and spoke German too, she's a big name here I know that.

Donna summer was a pop girl so she's very well known everywhere. She's sold like over 100 million albums, 5 grammy awards, TONS of hot 100 hits and number one albums. I think its really moreso the disco thing that fckd her up. She did have success in the 80s a bit but that's when her career turned
She works hard for the money is a classics... A karaoke go to

Im about to watch this Donna summer special tho, this looks interesting
nobody loves/knows this song.. it's from her last album. I had it at the release.. my father bought me it.. ;and i was living in cameroon and he gave me the album..
and i was like " why donna"
and he said " hey she's a real singer, stop the brandy, janet and everything and listen to her new album too".
she has a sentimental place in my heart because she was one of my fatherss favorites..he had many albums, and he used to listen to her in the car when he was taking me to school.
I HATED IT...!!!
but now than i am far from him.. i listen to this track a lot .. it's a pop basic ballad... but so quiet, so nice.. it made me thinks of him..

Most definitely
And disco still lives on in different elements in 2016.
Songs considered disco-influenced-styled: "Get Lucky" (Daft Punk), "Birthday" (Katy Perry), "Sugar" (Maroon 5), "Treasure" (Bruno Mars), just to name a few.

The Queen of Disco no question about it. I don't know why she doesn't get more love. Some people consider her "a sell-out" or "self-hater" but if that's true, why does Tina Turner get a pass? She has said questionable things.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMjyIOnWUlQ
Tina had bigger hits, she's a toruing legend and her career success endured a lot longer than Donna. Even so, Tina has received her share of backlash from the Black community. Whenever the girls are getting tributes it's always Aretha, Chaka and Gladys. I don't think i've ever seen a Tina tribute before Bey sang with her at that the Grammys.
Nobody cares about Donna? Shes a underrated legend yes but that's untrue. THe anti-disco mvoement and anti-gay comments sort of tarnished her legacy.
