do u see urself as BLACK or GAY first?
And how has this affected the way you've felt about the mess that went down @ Pulse this weekend?
Have you had mixed ( :wellheythere: ) emotions?
n
change the title to sweet potato lol
I'm black first
Sexuality is very fluid to me and is also something intangible or unseeable aside from actions.
Your color phenotype is a direct reflection of your DNA and so I say first things first; I'm Black.
This shooting was extremely sad. Although I know it is a distraction in order to cause more fear and hate amongst people; innocent lives were lost and that is TRAGIC.
My heart goes out to the family and loved ones of those people.
God have mercy on the shooter and all of those involved with it.
I don't think I separate them.
I guess I'd say black first. It's the first thing I have to defend myself on living in fcking America. I don't fear being killed because I'm gay as much as because I'm black
Interesting.
I would think everyone would say "human being" first though
Then from there... who knows.

Living in the U.K, for me it's probably being black before being gay
I'm more worried about being demonised because of my colour and have been subjected to ignorance due to my colour and heritage more-so than my sexuality.

Human being is the ultimate equalizer... or should be. Not our reality, people don't use it often.
Categorization is where the mess starts... and what our reality is.
I don't find that funny.

I guess the point I was trying to make was... most people don't see "human" right away. They see categorization of the human race, and so forth. And base their assumptions of how would act or think normally, etc... Because that's a whole other topic that didn't have to go to far in.
But Ok.

I think about this a lot.
If there was one corner with a bunch of gheys of all shades of blacks of all
orientations, I think I'd perch with the black group. That's where my heart is... But then there are moments where I more strongly identify with gays than blacks but usually not.

It could be because I'm not fully black and I haven't faced this intense form
if adversity like a "really" black person did. I'm not black by all definitions in the book. In Latin America or South Africa, hell in London phenotypically barely pass as black. But in my heart I fully identify with black people, that is my family lineage I assign with, the name I carry, debates I'd have about and when somebody black succeeds or suffers I see myself.
But for some I will never be black and won't lie I know what it is like to fully be...

It's not funny. Honestly your skin is just there you were able to adjust and grow with it all your life. You know without an ounce of a doubt you can't help your skin color. And you know other people know as well.
But being ghey you harbour in your heart... It pops up in puberty you have to slowly learn to accept and deal
With it internally. That can take years. It's still very much a weak spot and place of insecurity. I honestly feel like being black is socially at least on the surface officially absolutely accepted but being gay is not.
If you don't go through it you can't relate and shouldn't marginalize the issue. Ugh just the thought of being shamed for my sexuality hurts like hell.

Exactly! I am. Citizenship and all. And I proudly and ever so prominently make that clear.
I am also Palestinian though. I look more Arab than I do West African, so it's confusing for some.

Yeah, there's another slew of emotions that come along with your sexuality and accepting it. I don't think they cancel out the emotions that come along with being a poc, but there's another struggle there that can be just as difficult for some people.
