Quote? It is a sore point when people like Drake or Bieber or other artists come and do dancehall-orientated music but don?t credit where dancehall came from and they don?t necessarily understand it.
A lot of people get upset, they get sour. And I know artists back in Jamaica that don?t like Major Lazer because they think they do the same thing that Drake and Kanye did ? they take and take and don?t credit.?

A big part of what he's talking about is artists sampling reggae artists and not crediting, not doing multiple genres. And he never said he doesnt work with Major Lazer. He said some other artists wont. In Jamaica now, a few artists are suing but some like Beenie Man is against it. Mr Vegas and Beenie Man are beefing now because of this very thing. Bottom line is, dont speak too much on the topic if ur ignorant about the facts.

he can go somewhere. I'm sure he'd be singing a different tune had he been featured on one of those records. and lets keep be honest a lot of reggae/dancehall/culture artists will take a pop or american song word for word and just add it to a dancehall beat. I've heard it many times :plzstop:

!!! Not to mention when Marvin Gaye's family sues other artists (Robin Thicke, Ed Sheeran and the like)...'Oh they stole. Sounds exactly alike. Get money then!!!' General guideline is, just give credit on songs when u use lyrics, beats or melodies from another artist. Lots of ppl do it but some don't.
He's got a point, but it's muddied because he'll jump on a lot of these songs for a remix.

I think you have be an Islander to really understand. I happen to like alot of these songs, Tory's "LUV", Ariana's, "Side to Side" and that Victoria Monet song are dope. But some of these songs are just shoddy remakes.
Do y'all even know Popcaan was on the original version of "Controlla" and Beenie Man's vocals are on it but he's not featured.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its been happening for years. Lil Kim has done it several times. Stole a complete verse from Tanya Stephens on her Naked Truth album and got sued. Lighters Up is a complete ripoff of Damian Marley's Welcome To Jamrock. Nicki Minaj does it a whole lot too. Even that Side To Side song u mentioned, the way she started off her rap was a ripoff of a Buju Banton hit record. I could go on and on but chhh...I aint got the time cause half these artists they wouldn't know. lol.

I get the sampling but just give some credit. feature a reggae/dancehall artist on your song so they get their due respect. they can't even get a shot in the music video....a poster, picture..nothing.

!!!!!
People are being willfully foolish in here. A dancehall artist featuring on a pop song IS giving credit to the dancehall genre. That isn't what Sean is talking about. What he's talking about is them incorporating dancehall into pop music, trying to pass it off as something new and innovative, rather than crediting it as dancehall influenced. It's the same as if Becky threw two Ubuntu knots in her hair and everyone goes crazy calling it new and innovative when the world knows blacks have been doing that forever.
