2014?s Motion is the last record Calvin Harris will ever put forth.
Times are a-changin, and Calvin Harris is one step ahead. The superstar producer, who has a song titled ?My Way? dropping on Friday, refuses to release any more albums because in the digital age, it?s a singles game, and the importance of streaming singles is key to an artist?s mainstream success.
?Calvin has always been a forward-thinker and believes just releasing singles is the way forward,? a source told The Sun of Harris? tactic. ?Albums don?t sell how they used to and artists are now seeing streaming as the future. Albums are time-consuming and limit artists to cycles rather than having a persistent presence in the charts.
They add: ?Calvin is one of the most-streamed artists in the world so it would make sense to exploit that success.?
Harris?s recent release, ?This Is What You Came For? featuring Rihanna, peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100. His next release, which is rumored to take aim at ex Taylor Swift, has the potential to top that.
It?s a smart move for Harris to stray away from the traditional album release route, because it allows him to continue pursuing other ventures and focus on one song at a time. This doesn?t necessarily mean fans won?t receive as much music, he?ll just need to regularly distribute songs more frequently to make up for it.
this is pretty smart tbh less expense to make the album and more money when the single takes off... :ohwow:
Ok
curious move.
and intrigued with the featture of Friday's new single
Oh
Do people buy his albums?
He doesnt need to. I never know why these dj khalids release albums and shit. Its just an album of other people
I think the industry as a whole will be drifting away from albums soon. Our collective attention span is getting shorter by the date and album sales are hitting record lows. I'm not mad at it tbh.
Good
His last mess wasn't that good anyway, Just release singles continuously

!!!
I don't even mind all the EPs as well. If anything, they're usually better than full albums bc of how concise they are.
I can see how moving away from albums is good for the industry,
but for me as a consumer I want full bodies of work, especially from my faves.
Yes I think it works for the more dance pop songs, but Kendrick's good kid and Lupe the cool are examples of how the songs actually need eachother to tell a story
n
Why is this news
Were ppl here for his albums like that?

Can he top This Is What You Came For? :stressed:
How Deep Is Your Love>>>>>>>>>
I never really think about him as an artist.. It is just like David Guetta.. They both needed Ri on this track. She is the one who could put it on a album
I've been saying this.
I think a just singles plan could really work for a lot of artist. Consistently releasing music would be the key. One also may have to chase the radio a bit too. However, having singles and videos released consistently over a period of time would be very helpful to veteran and new artist.
Could you imagine if the entire budget of two eleven was spent recording one single at a time w/ vids? We for sure would've gotten 5 song releases and at minimum 4 videos.
But for artist w/ a major following their is no better way to tell a story. Even having ALBUM sales I could see being bragging rights and reserved for a elite club.

Makes sense. Albums aren't really necessary anymore. When you think about it, there's almost no point in releasing anymore singles after an album is released because of streaming and stuff but artists without eras sounds like a disaster..
