What percentage of blacks live there

What percentage of blacks live there
the last census was in 2011 and it had us at 1,148,738, which is 2% of the population
Chuka Umuna had a GREAT chance, and will probably be the only one to come close, but he doesn't even want to be leader of the labour party, which is disappointing.

Don't know how I feel about this docu. It comes off a bit defensive tbh.
But I get it also, given the history.
what's defensive about it?

what's defensive about it?
the guy in the preview saying everybody wants black people's physique. I mean it is true
:feelinmyself:
But really it is generalizing and in an ideal world, not worthy of a mention. Also not all blacks are skrong West Africans, there are also more petite East Africans.
But whatever lemme watch and enjoy.

I love that they're talking about their culture and intelligence before they came to the UK to find that most of the people there lacked these things.

QuoteGreat documentary but I think it's the last thing the black community should be worried about. Top of the list should be the high levels of mental illness and how psychiatry is used to silence and shun them. There is no medical test to prove mental illness so its a label being used to control the masses. A historical example would be when psychiatrists use to label black slaves with "Drapetomania" because they wanted to flee captivity in the 19th century. Today if you can't handle the stress of being exploited by a company, or can't handle being bullied at school or numerous other social problems then you are labelled with an illness, but its all done in the name of social control. This applies not only to black people but anyone who doesn't conform. I've done some video's explaining why psychiatry is a fraud for anyone interested and so have many other people.

Oh wow. Im kinda conflicted because historically and even during contemporary times mental health has definitely exploited people of color. From pervasive misdiagnoses, lack of cultural competence, pathologizing normal behavior, and committing PoC to institutions without their consent because of these things. I also think the nature of healthcare and capitalism fuels how these factors intersect to create an even more pernicious system. As a mental health worker, you can't get paid for much unless you diagnose someone; who has "the most problems"? People of color. Which is why I took a break from pursuing a career in psychology.
On the flip side though, PoC definitely have some mental health challenges because all of the things burdening them. Mental health is a stigmatized thing, especially in our community, so I wouldn't dismiss it entirely. A lot of us really could benefit from seeing a wellness focused clinician. I am currently trying to find one shid.
I will say though, people should be more prone to seeing a counselor rather than a psychologist/psychiatrist. They're trained to tell you about your problems and diagnose you. So I agree with that point too.
The 1st ep was really good

London is less than 50 percent white though. And Birmingham is super black too. Also they distinguish between black and mixed I think in the UK.

Never heard it like this before.
I do know in the U.K, black people, men in particular make up over 70% of the more serious mental health diagnoses. There was an article on it a few months back about mental health almost being non existent in the black community.
I guess people don;t want to use it as a crux, because it's seen as a sign of weakness, but at the same time if there's a REASON...
But at the same time, Mental Health diagnoses in the black community are very minimal.
watched part 1 & 2 this morning.
I could relate to so much that they covered, that whole thing about integrating with White British culture but maintaining Caribbean/Afro heritage is so real.
