Title: Zendaya CLOCKS Colorism In Hollywood
Post by: D.I.E.G.O. on December 13, 2016, 12:50:00 PM
(https://s29.postimg.org/9jbind0mf/Zendaya_for_Allure_2.jpg)

QuoteI ask myself, Would I get the same opportunities?would I have this role or that role?if I were a darker-skinned black woman? And the answer is no. But the real thing is how do you take what you?ve been given and use it to better the situations of people that are your peers, your brothers and sisters?

She also discusses making her move from Disney. Decent interview.

Interesting because she was kinda bullied into dropping the Aaliyah role because she was too light and ppl didn't even think she was Black

I didn't say she wasn't benefiting, hun. However, she's also acknowledging that colorism exists and that it's a problem.

Keep it real queen. And she's not only covering the area of darker skinned black artists, her point encompasses darker skinned performers of ALL races. If ya Mexican in the script, they're more likely to cast an American/European-looking Spanish person, or someone mixed, rather than a full-bred Mexican. Same with Asians. Look at Oliver on HTGAWM--he talks and looks like a typical American dude.

The most common times these neglected artists are offered the chance to make a name for themselves is when they step out and behave in a completely different manner than the other artists that share their semblance. Meanwhile, tens and tons of white actors who look and behave similar (and are essentially in the same lane) get just as many opportunities as their counterparts.

So she's not a spanish person with close to 70% of white admixture? Sarcasm.

Didn't we talk about this in my thread last week and you guys denied it?

The problem is with people more willing listening to light skin activists than dark ones. Because there are plenty dark skin activists saying the same mess and getting paid no mind.
