she garnered numerous hits! considerably the best dancer of her era.
Bran, Li, and Mo always seemed to garner profound commercial success whilst My' went Platinum with cute features here and there and was a fav at MTV but always seemed to fall short. The talent was there, the look and all of the potential.
what happened? I've recently got into her career and discography.

I thought about this for years. :plzstop: I've always liked Mya and wondered why sis always got lost in the shuffle,
One, she came out in '98, too late to really be part of the Li, Bran, Mo group. She didn't have the homegrown young teen fanbase they did since she came out at 18. It isolated her.
Two, she could never maintain momentum after big singles. She'd have like one or two, and then disappear. The nineties and early 2000s were all about multi-single eras. She didn't have a memorable string of singles or truly classic albums. Sometimes it wasn't her fault. I put a lot on her labels. What was the single that followed Case of the Ex? Why did Fallen flop? :guys:
Three, she didn't market herself personality-wise. She's always seemed aloof. Even in the era of TRL, reality shows, Cribs, Making the Video, etc. I can't remember her making her presence known.
Nevertheless, she won Grammys, made hit singles and collabs, performed for MJ, acted, did DWtS, and she's still recording and cute. Can't win em all lol. :letsmessfag:

Her dumb ass took too long after moulin rouge. If she had followed p!nk's lead and dropped shortly after LM she'd probably still be around.

Simple.
She ain't cute.
Because she was never looking for her "due". :dead:
Quote
Do you think that you get credit for your contribution to '90s music?
I don?t know. I don?t really pay attention to just due, credit or acknowledgement. I?m just trying to get my music out to the universe and trying to get to as many people as possible. I know that I was attached to a system who have specific expectations for numbers, charts and figures so I understand that being business, but that?s not the place I?m operating from. I?m not looking for awards, charts or pats on the back. I just want to make people feel really good, to fulfill any requests that come my way as much as possible and to be in love with my music for no other reason other than it feels good. I don?t really have any expectations.

To a certain extent. It initially began with the Fear of Flying era. They wouldn't allow her full creative control.
Aqua' good for you for getting into her discography. It's solid.

She's been saying that since the beginning of her career even in her prime. :dead:
I think she didn't come back right.
In 2006 I remember people anticipating her and when she dropped ayo radio was playing it saying she's back etc but she didn't come back with a smash. Then they tried lock u down and ridin...she lost the little momentum she had. Had she released a bigger smash like a Fergie glamorous, Nelly F Promiscious girl etc she would still be around.
Then she went indie and the rest is history.
I'm still pissed Fallen flopped. Sis had a big single with Wo, cute vid, and needed momentum. Fallen was pop enough for the white girls to get in, but I never saw it promoted or heard it on radio. :fuming:
Fallen is such an underrated classic

Wished she stuck with Interscope and finished Control Freak with Dr. Dre, Lil' Jon, and Sean Garrett.

Fallen was a terrible choice. :dead: Should've went with Why You Gotta Look So Good?
Should've released taste this and had 50 cent in the video or somebody big.
Made a video similar but entirely different like Ashanti "rain on me"
"Taste this" had a hip hop beat and sound like it could be a hit in 2003.
Moodring was full of potential singles. Can't see Taste This being a single though. It's more Quiet Storm R&B than anything.
'Moodring' is so good! And my best friend is in love with 'Fallen'. 'Step' should've been the follow up single.
It's arguably her best work/album from a fan viewpoint. Personally, Fear of Flying is my fave.
'Lie Detector' lyrically makes me gag bitch.

Mya was definitely visible in the early 00s. Her label definitely made sure she stayed booked or perched at some event. (Janet's Icon, Michael's 30th Anniversary, Liza Minnelli's wedding, etc) She definitely was a staple at MTV, continuously booked movies, endorsements, receive nominations, etc.

Mood ring wasn't full of singles...
Taste this was in vein with Beyonc? me myself and I, Ashanti rain on me, Monica should've known better etc around that time.
After "my love is like wo" wasnt much she could release in 2003 to keep up with her peers.

Where did I say she wasn't visible then? I said she was, but she never sustained a full album era with multiple hit singles. After one or two hit big, she'd disappear. The other girls were putting our 4 or 5 vids per album back then. Also, performing and getting endorsements are different from interviews and specials that actually show your personality.
I also don't think any of her albums were classics. That's what kept her behind her peers. I liked her singles and bought a couple of her albums but ch... I did enjoy her mixtapes and latest album, though.

Wonder why a Li duet was never suggested. Seems like a no-brainer, and could have led to cute choreography.
