Between this, "Me, Myself and I", "Signs", "Speechless", "Yes", the end of "Crazy In Love".... it's time to start singing again or I'm gonna have to side with Santana on this 1. :usuresis:
She did this throwback Bey run at the end of "Shining" and I felt fuzzy
Honestly, I don't think her singing has regressed any. Her tone is just different now, not quite as dark and sultry.

Only reason I'm lashing her for it is because her skill hasn't diminished at ALL

I prefer her tone a lot more now. I just love how she played with harmonies and really gave you belts, runs & wails back in 2003. Her live performances back then, as a SINGER, shit on everything she has done this decade.
She really used to go for it. Now, I think she feels the pressure to be "MICHAEL JACKSON!", so her focus is always on putting on a spectacle & doing choreography. And I can't blame her, because expectations are always so high whenever she touches the stage.

She is singing her face off in 2004. No contest.
But the anthem in 2013 is my favorite because of how full & rich her tone became.
I guess it depends on what you prefer, vocally.
Yea she's set the bar so high performance wise, that I can understand why she can't really focus on the vocal aspect on stage
But in that studio ... at least bring the harmonies and shit back. It's time

My grandparents always throw shade at B, but they were stanning DOWN after that performance. Musically, she isn't as universal as an Adele, but with performances like that, she could really reach more people. I wish she would give that more. I remember during the 4 era, there was an interview she did where she said on that album, she wanted her vocals to sound more like her live vocals. Ever since then, her vocal approach has been different. I love how her voice is now. It works on songs like Superpower and Rather Die Young. But its kinda evident she's not as free or comfortable hitting higher note.
I love her TWOTW voice tho. I think I prefer her tonality there the most.
Yea, i wish she sang the way she used to a bit
The vocals on Destiny fulfilled were flawless as well.
Those final Adlibs on "Love". No one could mimick that
The vocal on "Pray You Catch Me" is underrated.
It's very understated, but emotional & beautiful. She connected to it.
That's one song where she could have added a lot, but I appreciate that she didn't. There's this hidden run behind "but I'm not at ease" on the 2nd verse. This ghostly eeeEEeEEeEeeEEEEEEEeeeEEEEEE!

high notes are not ideal to consistently do on a tour situation
they are for special occasions
I think 2 things when it comes to Bey's current vocals
1st I think she knows SANGING isn't popular right now
It's all about this Migos' flow or whatever that's what gets radio play
and live I think she actually gets nervous to live up to her hype
I've noticed she kinda flubs some runs like on the a capella anthem
or Precious Lord and it's not like her voice cracks or goes off-key
she just kinda has slightly shaky spots where she doesn't land the runs perfectly
it sounds like lack of confidence
just my "opinionata"

I agree 100%!
She had way more confidence when she was younger, but it's not surprising. She wasnt the star she is now.
Now, the pressure is on to be flawless 24/7 in a social media climate. I'm sure she's read all the critiques on her voice. And she knows she's the biggest artist of her generation and that's daunting sometimes.
The way she used to go for runs, wails and belts with ease! But she was young and hungry for respect. Now, that she has it, she's scared to fumble.
Y'all get me

Y'all dragged that Stevie Tribute and the "Take My Precious Hand" performance but she went off. I love when she sings like that. So powerful.
I do miss how light her voice was tho. And her just SINGING period.
nah idk
Everyone went up for the Stevie mess. That was everythg! Precious lord was a damn mess and she made up for it.

It's the music. See how she SANG and PERFORMED for the stevie tribute WHEW! She needs live instruments and leave that "Flawless" "7/11" "Diva" bullshit BEHIND!
I dunno about "leave it behind" cause "Partition" and "Flawless" slei most of the mess on Lemonade imo. But yeah, I think her style is more minimalist now.
