It's a fact that African Americans, on average, carry at least 10-15 percent of European blood in their veins, due to the slave trade (and consequently, slave rape). Would you ever take any time to discover your European roots? Would you care?
Personally, I was very hurt when I learned the truth about its origins from my grandmother, and extremely angry and frustrated. It hit me so hard just knowing how much slavery has affected us, socially and even physically. I really look at everything a bit differently. :'( :'( :stressed:

How do you feel about it? Does truly owning your heritage mean acknowledging EVERYTHING about it, or are you allowed to pick and choose what you choose to "overlook" a bit?

I kinda figured it out once I read one of my family reunion packets and they were talking about our origins and it almost seemed like they were so glad our original ancestor was a white slave owner.

my grandmother asked me to research her dad's side.....and I know for her its more personal cuz the heritage is much closer, although she was very blunt with the fact that it came from slave rape, she still wants to know her history on that side. so she's not delusional. but I find myself so reluctant to dig into that mess.
