I wouldn't have a problem with slave movies if we told our own stories and had a lot more historical periods depicted. Black history doesn't begin and end with slavery. I think a lot of white people fetishize those slavery images.
It's been tired.
There's more to black history then slavery.
I haven't been interested in learning about slavery since like 3rd grade
BUT speaking of schools... can we get a Lil more BLACK content? Why is everything slavery and then fckn Rosa Parks & MLK.There are tons of other black heroes we should be taught about. :diddraispoot:
I can't remember the last time I watched a Slave mess. Its been over a decade I know.
I'm tired of them.
Django Unchained did it the best.
I want a TRUE slave rebellion movie of the Haitian revolution.
:ohwow:
I don't mind slave movies.
I just hate that I feel like we can only get movies filled with blacks if it's slaves, jim crow, segregation, or some madea like family mess.
Like white people recycle mess all the time but they have a whole damns variety of stuff they can recycle. We just have like 3 types of mess.

I agree with this...and it's sooo obvious. :uhh: :uhh:
I honestly believe they over exaggerate a lot of the mess. It's so one dimensional and undertonish. I can barely understand how they get away with reproducing that imagery over and over again! :dead: :dead: Then you'd hear the girls go

How else would Wong Chee' over in Japan, Who never met a Black in his life, fear his character w/o knowing him...or Even know how to do a "Crank that Nae Nae" mess! :) So if they can brainwash Dinesh al Aaryahi Who's a hundred thou' miles away into believing blacks are less than with a "HUGE" new release '12 years a Slave".....Imagine the brainwashing it can do to those who live under that actual skin color! The diaspera lasted over 500 years there are many untold stories
This is tricky. I do think it's important but on the other hand it dehumanizes black people. Usually in slave movies black people always come across as less capable and less cultivated, something that doesn't happen in the Holocaust films.
I'm ready to see a film about the Haitians killing all the French colonizers tbh
:feelinmyself:
Tyler Perry and Spike Lee should hire experts to craft a nice epic about the Mali Empire. Why hasn't Black Hollywood produced a film about any of the West African ancient empires yet. The whites do it with European sagas all the time.

:blessed:
I forgot what documentary it was but it angered me to see how they systematically ensured that Haiti was left in poverty after they gained their independence. They legit could not STAND to see Blacks run their own mess. Unless it was in ruins.
I have you the link to that. It was a long and very insightful series about blacks in Latin America.

Could you imagine how white people would feel walking out of a film where they are slain in masses and didn't come out on top :plzstop:
I imagine 10x more PISSED than after 'Get out'
But now is a good time to reattempt since these companies are profiting off current race topics

I think people would be more comfortable if we swept Black struggle under the rug and moved forward with some "that was then, this is now!"
Obama!
Yeah, and soon as he left we got a big SLAP in the face with his replacement.
I am looking forward to Black Panther though. I'm flying down to North Carolina to take my godson to see it soon as it comes out. I just feel he's so lucky to have this experience as a Black child - seeing people that look like him in a action/thriller mess. I definitely want him to say "my Godfather took me to see it!" when he gets older. :plzstop:

All I saw was "events leading up to the Third Civil War".

A modern world where niggers are locked up, lynched & hung by the laces of their Jordans.
