His groundbreaking visual style has gifted the hip-hop culture with timeless visuals like Busta Rhymes' futuristic "What's It Gonna Be" and Missy Elliott's seminal visual "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)," where she dons the iconic inflated garbage bag and a variety of stylish sunglasses. The celebrated director is also responsible for writing the script for Kanye West's "Runaway" short film and directed West's "Can't Tell Me Nothing," "Stronger," "Heartless" and plenty more.
In addition to Williams, Martin Lawrence and Mariah Carey will also be honored at the ceremony, which will be hosted by Regina Hall. Missy Elliott, a 90s "game-changer" herself, will also hit the stage for the 90s block-party.
The star-studded event will be held at Paramount Studios on Sept. 17 and will air on Monday (Sept. 18) at 9 pm EST on VH1.

Very deserving.
His resume is intensive and impressive.
"No Scrubs, Sittin' Up In My Room, Rock the Boat, One More Chance, What's It Gonna Be?" just to name a few...
I often wonder how Hype dealt with the passing of Aaliyah...
If you look at his resume... after "Rock the Boat" he directed only 5 videos between Sept 2001 and Dec 2003.
Major decline considering how much videos he did back-to-back (22+ a year) prior to Rock the Boat.
