Janet Jackson?s chart-topper last week was aided by the 30k units that were part of a ticket bundle for her tour, which explains why the album sold so well with virtually no airplay. The veteran artist and her wealthy husband, fashion mogul Wissam Al Mana, who financed the recording and underwrote her Rhythm Nation label, had shopped the album to the majors but got nary a nibble, enabling BMG to pick it up. It?s turning out to be a good move for the company?s recorded-music division, which is finally showing signs of life under Jon Cohen.

Artist use other means to get fans to buy albums. Whether its dropping your price to 99 cent on black friday or everybody getting a copy of your album during a talk show tapping. Samsung brought a million of Jayz album to package it with a phone. Hell, if Beyonce didnt come thru like a thief in the night with 100 videos her fate could have been different.
The fact that she even had the option to just START A LABEL is kind of a book in itself. Cause her peers and the others cant and wont do it.

QuoteJanet already had the Unbreakable concept in mind when she began working.
The sessions for the new album originated with Jackson explaining an idea for a concept with Jam and Lewis. ?She revealed to us what her concept was, and as we always do, we just began making music,? says Lewis. ?We don?t try to directly flesh out a concept until that time comes. We just try to get creative and start recording and do what feels good musically. She came with the concept, and that became the beginning theme of where we started.?
QuoteThe tour and the album were often being conceived concurrently.
Jam notes that there were days, particularly toward the end of the sessions for the album, that would find Janet working all day in rehearsals for the stage show and then reporting to the studio to finalize ideas for the record.

QuoteHow did this partnership happen? Who signed it, and how did the story begin?
About a year and a half ago, Zach Katz, our Chief Creative Officer, met with several producers who have worked with Janet and told them about the new way BMG was doing business. Janet was intrigued by the model and she was intrigued by Zach?s creative force, so she came in and met with the executives and Hartwig. She really liked the vibe; she felt that this could be a home for Rhythm Nation and that we could do a really good job for her.
QuotePart of that, I would imagine, is the tour, which is doing great. Can you talk a little about that?
The touring is all Janet; we do the recorded music with her, but we?re wholly vested in how well it does. Live Nation and WME have been absolutely blown away. They?re on their third leg already, and sales into next May and June of next year are already staggering.
Maybe Mariah should done that maybe her first week would have passed 60k

QuoteIn a call just before the album was released, Jon Cohen, the Executive Vice President of Recorded Music at BMG was quick to say that working with Janet has been a blast, as she has been ?incredibly accessible? during the album-making process. Apparently Unbreakable didn?t take too long to write and record, as she only signed her contract with the company about a year ago, and it is already out on store shelves as of last Friday.

Wow. Does the bolded part mean she was already with BMG while recording the album? :ohwow:
But I thought she shopped the album to major labels and then BMG?
ANYTHING to discredit her
And it would be the Baph' to post this
Does she sit up all day on social media looking for Janet shade?
She keeps more tabs than the stans! :uhh:

So I guess her being made to tour and her shopping the album around to labels is false when the album was already done lol

There wasn't a bundle deal, there was an opportunity to pre order the album to gain early access to concert tickets. So in reality 30,000 people ordered their album early...
Janet has yall so pressed.

:holdupguys:
Not really looking for a back n forth. So to not go through and quote everything. Just to TAP on two things.
Beyonce has 5 Consecutive #1 albums. The next 1 going #1 will actually be an achievement. Being the 1st female to have her first 6 albums going #1. She's tied with Madonna right now.
and I dont get why the Jans bring up MC. Mariah has sold 200 million records, 18 #1's and has been around since her start consistently releasing music since her debut. Jan been gone for like 7 years and did a LIL above 100k.... woo!
umm Jan Sold 160million worldwide. Just thought u guys should know. Carry on
And that obsession album was kinda the last of MiMi. She is much done. Her run is kinda over

Article is completely false.
1. Jimmy said they made the album in 6 months. That was just about a year ago so there goes the timing
2. Janet's husband didn't fund her project
3. Nothing was bundled, all albums and tickets were separate
My message got cut off lols.
There's not credibility to any of this article. And bundling albums with tickets don't count for SoundScan or Billboard. They must be sold separately not given. Prince tried this a few years ago and they made that decision after his
Musicology tour.
QuotePart of the album's chart success is due to concertgoers receiving a copy of Musicology, with the album cost included in the ticket price for the Musicology Tour. This prompted Billboard magazine and Nielsen SoundScan to change its chart data methodology: For future album releases, Billboard says that customers "must be given an option to either add the CD to the ticket purchase or forgo the CD for a reduced ticket-only price."
Nice try fags.

They ARE messy for this. Janet never shopped her album around because there WASN'T AN ALBUM. Jimmy and Terry have said numerous times that this album didn't feel pressured because it was them just making music. Janet's had the idea to go independent since her last era ended. And why the hell would she need her husband to fund her project? Smh.
