So an Afro-Latino is someone who has significant ancestry from Africa who?s ancestors were brought to Spanish speaking countries....or it is just a darker skin color thing? Does it not involve DNA makeup as well?
An Afro latino is a black person who is from a Latin American country. Lupita is technically Afro latino.
My friend just tried to argue with me and told me it was just a darker skinned Latino person...I?m like huh? :uhh:
I think it?s more than that
d latino is not a race.
Latino is actually something America made up to classify all the people who speak Spanish because the amount of foreign people who spoke it were growing. America is the super power so everybody just adopted it.
Calling someone latino is like calling Someone African/European/Asian. it just tells you what continent they're from, but nothing about their culture or racial make up.

Most people don't know the difference between Race, Nationality, & Ethnicity and between the three Race is the most flexible and edited one so it's easy.
An Afro-Latino: A phenotypically black person who grew up in a Romance-language-speaking American country (Spanish, Portuguese; sometimes but rarely also French). So anything from Brazil to Peru (sometimes also black people from French Guyana, Haiti, and Quebec are counted). See Amara La Negra, Laz Alonzo, Ronaldinho or Celia Cruz.
Afro-Hispanic: There are Hispanic blacks who come from the Spanish-speaking world that includes most of South America, parts of North America and the Caribbean, as well as Spain and the African country Equatorial Guinea. See Buika, also Amara La Negra, Laz Alonso NOT Ronaldinho.
Then there are Angolans, Cape Verdians or Afro-Portuguese and other people who are from Lusophone countries outside of the Americas. Some might also consider them Afro-Latino, since they speak Portuguese and are African by phenotype. But then you could also include French speaking North Africans and Subsaharan Africans.
So the slave trade and displacements of Africans has nothing to do with it?

Some people will argue that the unique admixture of West African, Iberian and Native South American created a distinct look/phenotype/race that most people call Latino. Just like Middle Eastern people have somewhat of a look even though they are super diverse.

it does. But if your great-grandparents immigrated from Uganda to Argentina and you grow up in Argentina, and then move to the United States you will be a Hispanic or Latino American who is black.

I've heard that and I can kind of agree in the sense that latinos and the US are the only places where you can find Triracial of that mixture, but at the same time they all don't look like that and also I've noticed alot of time someones culture/look/the way they carry themselves can influence how someone views their phenotype.

It is a good point to make, that I would not disagree with. Skin color plays a big role. Because if you are brown/light you might look more Taino/Native or more Spanish/Portuguese than African/black.
Adriana Lima and Lupita Nyongo could both be considered Afro-Latinas but clearly...
there are whites who are latino
blacks who are latino
mixed who are latino
most of the mixed latino is what we consider "latino" race wise
the afro latino are simply the blacks who are culturally latino
It depends though because skin color is as random hair color, eye color etc., In a place like America white America would be fucking shook if they had children that came out with dark skin or kinky hair or a wide nose etc., Something typical black, but black Americas having more admixture wouldn't be shocked to see a bby with light eyes, lighter skin, etc.,
It's the same in some countries in latin America. Brazil for example is so damns mixed literally it's like playing the sims and hitting randomize. You never know what to expect. Black Americans have admixture but we pretty much ended up blackening the race more once the one Drop rule came in. We get random mess sometimes but we for the most part know what we're getting.
yeah its so diverse
but ppul try to say authentic mixure vs non traditional mixure
ya mixed and speak spanish
