Aaliyah
Brandy
Mo
They were modeled after the divas, they gave grandeur
But then here comes Mya, and sexes things up in a new lane.
Bam!
All of the sudden, every girl that come out after is mixed with sex kitten
And mixing the music with the sexiness... All Mya's influence
Bey - Baby Boy, Naughty Girl ...... Mya type tracks (most of Bey's stuff is actually)
Rih - Rude Boy, Umbrella
Ci - Oh, Ride
Nicki - SuperBass
Keysh gave some sex
Kelly - Motivation, Lay it On Me .... all Mya type tracks
And lots of others
I'm sitting here thinking like... damn this bitch was influential. She could've been HUGE if she just kept going.
:dead:
r u ok hun

QuoteIf you?ve been listening to R&B from new stars Tinashe, FKA twigs, and Jhen? Though they have now mostly faded from the front row of pop culture, these artists are proof of a kind of inevitability of influence, with their sounds now palpable in the music of a whole new generation of musicians who grew up on their hits.

Nothing about mya music was generic and I'm not even a stan
n
I see similarities in Tinashe of Mya but that's it
As far as everything else she was never looking to be compare.
She said fans/stans were the one who always created mess and for her it was never about competition but proving herself a worthy assest to her label
She also said that when she first came out she came out at a time when Mary J. Blige set the tone in hip/hop and R&B and every R&B female artist follow suit and although she was last to come she was grouped with Aaliyah Brandy and Monica.
Mya should do R&B divas or something.

No sleep for days, and just keep going and loving every minute of it. Mya is like that also.

I don't agree with Bentley entirely but she should definitely be bigger than what she is now. She slays live.
Mya definitely had a lane of her own as well that girls today have followed
Mya made some cute chunes and is an incredible dancer. Not really seeing her 'influence' on anbody though.
She is the most mediocre and forgettable female R&B artist tbh.

Interscope believed in her at first but after awhile didn't know what to do with her. She was the only R&B on the label at the time. She also had creative differences with them as well stemming back from Fear of Flying. By the time Moodring rolled around they stop looking at her as a full package artist just a single artist now.
