I just can't with ppl acting like they're genuinely interested in female rap when Nicki had to dig the entire genre out of the mud.

The Queen of rap wasn't even an afterthought until Nicki came in. The last hit from the previous Queen, Lil Kim, came out in 2003. Between that time and Nicki's first radio hit in 09, there was no sign of a female rapper dominating consistently and making a brand out of their name. Lil Mama and Missy had like 1 hit in 2007 and 2005, and that was it :dead:

Clearly, for 6 long years, niggas wasn't interested in revere a female rapper like they would a Rihanna or Beyonce. Now everybody wanna rush to name who's the next Queen of rap? That's really FAKE

That's fine, but at least the Allen Iverson's and Steph Curry's that followed MJ got to their level because of their talent, which contributed to their stats. And their stats were earned in front of everyone's eyes.

Cardi's stats come from payola. And then she barely has talent? :dead: Fuck this useless hag

The sophomore mess will really give the tea.

Her debut didn't outsell Nicki's first week by a long shot (with equivalents included). And by long I'm talking like 100K missing. I'm interested to see what's in store for the second tea.

We'll see.

by calling her the new rap queen, therein lies the mess. I shouldn't have to explain it

Again

I think it's weird/fake that the gorls wanna quickly pass the torch off to someone else, when there was only one person lighting that bitch up for the past decade, and then before that, the general public proved they weren't interested in a female rap record past 1 or 2 songs. Nicki will remain the Queen of rap.

Cardi is the PAYOLA queen tho

but she's gonna have to learn to at-least rap and gain a few platinum albums as well as dominate for at-least 5yrs.

Yeah we can compare sales - that's where equivalents come into play.
An unfair comparison would be not including Cardi's STREAMING equivalents - which are a huge factor in 2018.

There are rap artists still hitting those numbers that Nicki hit for her first week debut so it is completely possible.

Even with streaming though things aren?t quite the same tho sis.
Although I get what you?re saying, sales aren?t the way they use to be , even with streaming .

All these gorls had hits here and there. NO ONE made being a female rapper a brand like Nicki did, in the midst of everyone doubting females in hip hop as a whole.

Cardi got into the game when female rap was already hot and blazing. To call her the title that Nicki rightfully earned after 1 year of payola and manipulation is ridiculous.

And besides, Lil Shim nor Missy hit the debut album first week numbers that Nicki hit.

So the "back in the day things were different" type of argument really wouldn't apply, as she came after them.

Both for the most part were very urban female rappers.

You?d be kidding to think that Nicki?s pop songs and features aren?t what helped her pull those numbers. She maneuvered extremely wisely.

She slayed.
I?d almost bet if she did what she did then back in ?04 or even ?01

She would have had ?Confessions? equivalent numbers or damn near close (700k + easy)

I think what's most shocking here is how so many of y'all faves fell all the way off, were replaced, and then played out of their position in favor of whichever new bitch who was deemed most fuckable by a group of nonsensical men. Misogyny is gross

The sophomore mess will really give the tea.

Her debut didn't outsell Nicki's first week by a long shot (with equivalents included). And by long I'm talking like 100K missing. I'm interested to see what's in store for the second tea.

We'll see. But this performance was the tea.

Now sis we can?t compare sales

Almost a decade apart

And the setup was totally different tbh
Yeah we can compare sales - that's where equivalents come into play.
An unfair comparison would be not including Cardi's STREAMING equivalents - which are a huge factor in 2018.

There are rap artists still hitting those numbers that Nicki hit for her first week debut so it is completely possible.

Even with streaming though things aren?t quite the same tho sis.
Although I get what you?re saying, sales aren?t the way they use to be , even with streaming .

Missy was a "very urban" female rapper?

Or a ho that said silly mess over fun Timbo beats?

Let's not get confused.

Missy May Be out of the box and May have crossed over but let?s not pretend like Missy was singing some bubble gum pop mess like Nicki. Which happen to be her BIGGEST hits

Let?s be realistic here

Or is she still an R&B artist who accomplished those feats as an R&B artist.

Missy nor Cardi could pull off a Superbass or a Starship. Let's not confuse Nicki's wide range of talent and versatility for her being less than a rapper, because she's not.

Yes, you were trying to take away from the fact that Nicki's debut was the highest selling first week for a female rapper ever.

It was very "Yeah, BUT....." That's detraction. "Not really doe, cuz......" is taking away from her a bit whether you realize it or not.

And yes Monica is relevant because if someone were to say "Monica was such a successful R&B artist with so many hits" - of course they're measuring her success based on the compared success of others who were in THAT lane of R&B. So if someone were to say "Yeah she was more successful than Lil Mo I guess BUT she did more pop stuff, so that's why she sold more. Lil Mo is more gutta and ghetto lolz ", that would be a) saying that Monica doesn't REALLY deserve that recognition by b) saying that she wasn't "REALLY" an R&B artist.

Your guess is that "pop" singles helped Nicki's album sales and that's fine but, her debut first week was still the best for a female rapper. I'm sorry but if there's any buts or not really cuz...'s that follow that statement, it's detraction.

This whole statement you made is based on the assumption that I was detracting from Nicki?s success or numbers when I wasn?t. Sorry it may sound that way to you but I wasn?t . In fact, I said it was smart how she played her career. She dabbled in different sounds. One being POP. They were her biggest hits and that was smart.

Monica has done the same. But what does she have to do with this?
We can both agree that doing ?Popular? music will help gain you ?popularity? or atleast expose you to a much wider audience. That?s what those particular Nicki songs were and did.
Nothing wrong with it .

However that heavily contributes to her sales and fan base. And that?s not a detraction that?s an explanation on why someone was so successful .

You basically said "Well yeah she sold more BUT ..."

It was this whole bob-n-weave mess you were doing around the facts. First it was "Well Cardi's in a different time" (when streaming equivalents are in place to make up for the SHIFT of pure sales to streaming)

People still listen to and enjoy music just as much as they did back when Nicki released for first album. Only thing that's changed is the METHOD - which is why digital equivalents are now counted for certifications. Spotify is free to download.

Then it was "Well yeah she sold more than Shim and Missy BUT..." . I'm sorry but the only facts we have are the numbers . Anything else is a guess - in regards to what may have contributed to the album sales (more "pop" sounds, etc).

Nicki was no damn Jason DeRulo or Flo Rida . She wasn't going platinum off of ringtones and 99 cent singles and then going wood once her album released. So to put her in that category (which you are basically doing) is completely unfair.

She did what she did as a female rapper. Period.
Sssssss huh
There was never any buts taking away from her sales
I applauded her for playing in different genres from go.
I dunno why you saying that?s what I was doing  :dead:
Like I said if you felt like I was then you have that right but I clarified I wasn?t

Nicki is Legend at this point in Rap.
Wasn?t really disputing that. But yeah Cardi is on top now. Flat out.

Boy bye.

Lil mama had 2 top 10 hits in 2007 and that uncredited number 1 with Avril Lavigne.

The chicken noodle soup girl had a huge hit.

Kim and missy were on that keyshia song.

Stop acting like nothing happened for 3 years and all of a sudden there was nickel  :kii:
Bookmarked.

The next time you fags try to pull that mess that Nicki was the only girl out.

Fag Nickel wasn?t out in 2007. No correlation to what I said.

So for the slow girls. Female rap was NOT a wasteland prior to Nickels entry.

I already noted that in between the END of Kim and the RISE of Nicki, a coupe girls came out and got a COUPLE hits, but NO ONE was able to create a package that stuck for female rappers like Nicki

Cardi got in the game when female was billable again. Nicki helped pump air back into the game to make it ok for mediocre sluts like Cardi to thrive

These are FAX

But, you were downplaying the feat as if it wouldn't count as much since she did more "pop" music.

She wasn't as "urban" as Shim or Missy.... both of whom were pop culture icons.

But, we have Monica swearing up and down how "real" and R&B she is and she's no stranger to a Richard Marx remake.

So, is it as impressive or NOT that she hit those numbers? Or should we not pay it that much mind or give her that many props for her accomplishments AS an R&B artist since she dipped into a different sound?

Or, is she an R&B artist who happened to experiment and go into different lanes AS an R&B artist?

Sis I wasn?t arguing about technicalities and what to count or not

I brought up Nicki doing pop simply to make the point that her bubbly fun songs helped get her a wider audience . Hence them being her biggest songs . That?s why her numbers were massive. Missy and Kim were crossed over but they weren?t doing bubble gum sing alongs

Boom ba doom doom bass! I mean  :dead:

I?m not saying it takes anything from her . But she was smart and strategic about how to reach the masses from jump. That?s what helped her numbers become so massive.

All this Monica mess is irrelevant tbh  :dead:

When you do pop of course it?s easier for them to become hits and garner sales. I never said anything was wrong with it
Yes, you were trying to take away from the fact that Nicki's debut was the highest selling first week for a female rapper ever.

Nicki Minaj has the highest first week debut sales of any female rapper other than Lauryn.

Flat out. I don't care to dig into assumptions of how she got it, or shoulda coulda woulda's. A lot of that is honestly opinion - unless we have a spreadsheet somewhere which will LAY out her "pop" sales vs. "urban" sales for that first week.

Otherwise, fax are fax.

dddddd

ACk! Break Records n tingz Nicki
She's definitely slayed harder than just about any rapper before or after .

Cardi is on top now tho lolz :supluv:
