QuoteB7" Brandy
Since her first solo album in 1994, Brandy Norwood has been at the forefront of R&B, her husky voice sounding preternaturally suited to any mold-breaking beat. On her seventh album, songs like the quivering "Borderline" and the up-to-here "Say Something" proved the ways in which her career paved the way for modern-day soul singers like H.E.R. and duet partner Daniel Caesar; elsewhere, like on the gently minimalist "No Tomorrow" or the pillowy "Rather Be," she gave modern R&B's boundaries yet another nudge.

This has been such an amazing year for her ever since she announced the album in May. This era feels like the 90s all over again. To have no album in 8 years and get the respect that she deserves as a 41 year old R&B artist is amazing.
I love that she is ending this era and year with her NYE's performance :-D. B7 being recognized by major publications is so huge.

everyone ok
I think people should be able to freely express how they feel about an album from Ghan - whether it be positive or negative. She told me herself that she loved the honesty and realness from BSource. We never have been about fake praising tea.
But, as with many things , sometimes there's a more...charming way to express disdain - especially considering the setting.
There's a difference between making a little slick/funny comment here and there and giving a "FUCK this album! It ain't SHIT! It sucks! You heard that? It doesn't deserve acclaim! " at every given opportunity. Like, going IN.
So I can understand Mac's feelings and need to express them, but it's just reasonable to expect that there may be some push back considering the consistency/intensity of these critiques and the setting we are in. Some people may just say "OK we get it ! 🙄"
I understand both sides of it.
Oh, I was def trolling :kii:
But we "play" drag the Bran albums we don't like constantly on here, this is the first time i've seen people get so irate about it. I dunno if it's because of the long wait between 2/11 and B7 or y'all just extra sensitive cause of quaratine but we BEEN doing this.

ive seen a bit of "irate" tea on both sides of it tbh.
Some of the comments I've seen have been far from playful love taps. I can understand why the girls are pushing back.
I just stay out of it for the most part. But I think both sides could benefit from trying to understand the opposite side.
But I definitely agree with the longer wait time possibly being a contributing factor of the mess.
We waited nearly a decade for tea, so when I see a bit of ... aggression in the critiques I have to keep that in mind.
I've been a bit easy on GHan but that doesn't mean everyone else will.
I appreciate your mediating King dahl. For me it's the fact that the same gorls were lashing out since day one about those who didn't like the album. There was never a chance for civil discussion about it, IMO. But I get what you're saying, about both sides.
Thing is this is always how Bsource has been, messy af, so for some of these people to act brand new and give a gasp! tea kills me :dead:

I dont understand how some lashing are justified and others arent
like its okay to say an old album is trash
but you cant say the new one is then your just miserable and hating
and ppul arent even saying its trash they are saying its not her best work and heres why and its still
to me ppul are forcing the narrative because they dont know what to do with the reality and everything this project represents for brandy as an artist issa denial tea
like some ppul will boldly proclaim its the best thing since buttered bread but drag 75 percent of the album

Just as they're pushing back on your constant critiques , your consistency and intensity of critique could also be a form of push back on them (or even a form of retaliation), for not being able to freely and comfortably express your feelings from the beginning without feeling that you were shut down.
And that's where the "fight" begins, and lines are drawn.

There's definitely some hiccups on the technical side of b7.
Personally, I am able to just take the album for what it is and appreciate how artistically solid it is
but it's not unreasonable for someone to be disappointed that the technical side AND artistic side didn't really meet with this project
It's unfair for assume everyone will give a "glass half full" tea . Ultimately we are consumers of a product - product being ghans music in this case. As with any other product we pay for and support, we will share our opinions and wishes for improvement.
Sometimes the tea can get a bit INTENSE and borderline overkill even , but overall I get it.

there is alot to unpack and process with this project
brandy as an independent artist at the helm of the decision making process and 20 years in the game
And
The writing is not that concrete
SHe hasnt developed an ear for the mixing and mastering side really despite her saying shes tryna make sure everything sounds clear
(like thats a given if your in a good studio)
Her vocals have changed (like mariahs like beyonces like whitneys like celines)
and while her voice is in amazing shape (despite the new breath control issues as a result of smoking)
shes invented this new baby talk vocal as her interpretation of baby bran vocals to compensate for her vocal shifts ( when baby brans vocals sounded alot more mature than that)
and on top of that her insecurity has her re recording the life out of these songs
and overlayering to the point where she cannot even give a solid live performance without a backing track cause of everything going on and all of the studio word for word comps she did during the recording process
and its very telling that this project is being treated as a homegoing project celebrating her career and exalting all of her previous projects when before new album eclipsed everything
and long standing bsource memebers jumped ship and bounced after the release :plzstop:
so lots to unpack with b7
