Many black people are inherently descendants of slave masters.
That's where the European DNA in our bodies come from.
Most of us have 18-20% Euro DNA.
I actually have less than usual, at 15%. But that's because my Native DNA took the remaining non-African space.
If you're black, it's very likely your heritage includes a mixture of slavery (Africans are not natives, we were dragged here from OUR native land, and it wasn't to have tea and crumpets).
It's only white people who should be truly concerned about being embarrassed of their family history in the states. That's where a lot of white guilt comes from.
Not all sexual action between whites and blacks was forced, though.
Many actually loved their black counterparts, but was afraid of backlash from proclaiming it. Back then, it was much more than a racist Instagram lashing that you risked by going public with your Oreo luv.
During this entire journey of genealogy, I totally ignored my European side.
Why should I be proud of some slave master blood?

That's all the fuck I see it as.
But the more I learn about this (I watched a couple documentaries last night), the more willing I am to accept this part of my family history.
Looking at picture of my great great great grandmother
She seemed like a rather esteemed FREE person of color.
Much like those pictured here.

So maybe she was indeed a product of rape, like my grandmother said...
But somewhere along the line , someone did right by my family.
I feel so much more comfortable accepting my French heritage now.
By doing so, I accept her.
