I think that means he has to cross the border somehow and with the passport he can take a flight home to the USA where he lives with wife and kid. Short term I think he has no way to leave the city unfortunately, long term he knows there's a chance for him to be evacuated. 

I just read there are volunteers from Florida, project Dynamo, who have evacuated Americans (people who were born there or are residents). Hopefully he will also get help from an organization. There are 1000 requests right now so it's not easy..

Biden has confirmed Americans have to find a way out of the country and they won't get help.

The State Department has not been able to provide an exact number for how many American citizens remain in Ukraine but estimates range from between 10,000 to 30,000. They are now telling anyone still in Ukraine to travel by land to Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia or Moldova.
