I thought her deal was a partnership deal where she records at her own leisure, own her masters in the process, and Motown acts as her distribution but it's all under her imprint Brand Nu Inc.

Or does she have the traditional record deal?

Motown is just her distributor like eOne was.  She likely signed a 1 album distribution deal with Motown because it was only a 1 album distribution deal with eOne or maybe she renegotiated it to be a 1 album distribution deal after deciding she wanted to work with Ethiopia/Motown as her distributor.

Bran Nu is listed on the back of her Christmas album so she's still an indie artist.

i dont think its a 1 album deal.  why would she sign a 1 album deal for a christmas album?? that doesnt make any sense.

The Motown CEO Ethiopia left the music group last December.
Ethiopia per the announcement article was the reason Brandy wanted to partner with Motown.
Motown then got merged with Capitol.
She came to Ethiopia for a parternship.
Ethiopia leaving Motown/Universal Music Group was unexpected, so Ryan and Brandy likely decided to fulfill the contract via the Christmas album.
Since the reason for her being there is gone.

That make sense for real and smart AF. That's why she not speaking much on B8 but I'm sure she got shit lined up for sure if that's the case. I hate all that went down after she sighed tho. I hope she wasn't too down about it

Brandy said this for the press release of the partnership back in June 2022.

"I've always wanted to work with Ethiopia [Habtemariam, Motown's CEO and chairwoman]," says Brandy. "I've just always thought that she was just a bad-ass Black woman who loves music, knows music, and I saw her work her way up because she's so talented. So when I heard that she was who she is now at Motown, I was like, 'If I ever were to go back to a major label, I would want to work with Ethiopia.' And it happened."

Is there a B8 on the horizon?

I hope so. I'm not going to stop doing music, but I would love to get into some new records in the future. But I just want to really get this out here and see how people feel about this record first.

That's what I been saying. They keep saying "Ethiopia isnt there anymore" ok and ? Ain't NO WAY you sign to a major label and only just release a Christmas album with them and then bounce. Where they do that at ?

Can't speak for anyone else but it's not about regularity for me, tbh I was side-eyeing those recent threads saying she had this big comeback planned cause I mean...it's not realistic lol.

My issue with this interview is that she doesn't even sound like she knows what's next, I don't hear any of the confidence she was giving this time last year. It's not giving Legend.

And as for "waiting to see" how this album does, and deciding if another album is coming based on that - Brandy is too goated for that, it's like she still stuck in this 90s mentality where she needs a major to do everything for her. Bitch, if you want to release an album then do it, you're fucking Brandy not Candiace Dillard

She could really release several eps, an album, a mixtape. Idk what the hold ups are. Especially since she doesn't seem to care much about the presentation anyway. If you're gonna drop music and then have no promotional campaigns or anything then just drop music consistently. What are all these strategic releases for if there is nothing to push them? Doesn't make sense.
