i actually get it to some extent

especially for a "deeper" artist like maxwell

he may not want to "reduce" his body of work to being pinned up against someone else's in a verzuz battle
although it's usually very lighthearted and fun...i can kinda make sense of maxwell turning it down

150K sounds like a lot but after taxes these artists are bringing home about 70K
not chump change but if they're in a good enough position and don't see the fun of a verzuz mess, i can see them turning it down and feeling like it's just not worth the bother

luckily a lot of them have decided to participate tho
