Stole their sound? Chh. The production of this song is a Jamaican beat. A lot of the taco bellas around this time were the ones hopping on dancehall, Caribbean beats. Lumidee included. Rihanna is actually from Barbados and was true to her roots. She didnt do this shit to ride a wave.

Project started: 2014
Wrapped up: 2024

Significant Discovery: First known Black American family of Kalmyk descent

Takeaways: Be prepared to pivot, even when you think you're on the right track. Be OK with being wrong so you can get things right.

Kalmyks are tribal Mongolic people who settled in Russia. It's estimated to be only 300,000 Kalmyk descendants worldwide - with only 3,000 in America.

U sound stupid. What wave was she riding when she did Rude Boy, No Love Allowed, Man Down and Work? I guess Sean Paul does dancehall music to ride the "Caribbean" wave too. An artist from the Caribbean can't be biting off a sound they grew up on.

Nina Sky and Lumidee kinda stormed thru the summers of 03-04 with these thin voices over these dancehall beats.

rih was a lil girl doing reggae music when she was discovered. wasnt like she was doing pop and then forced to do reggae. if anything, she just naturally progressed into doing a blend of different genres over her career. she's doing a reggae album now and reggae isn't on trend atm. rih is just a multi-dimensional artist.
