I don't agree with Jans shade but early Mariah was literally modelled on Whitney and she counts Aretha as a big influence vocally...

it wasn't shade. Janet basically does the female version of Michael dance-wise
and has the Prince Minneapolis sound musically

Janet did the Minneapolis sound for a few songs on one album album and her dancing is nothing like Michaels tbh 
She's her own artist thus why she has more hits than either one.

She only worked with Jam & Lewis on Control? Her dancing is very choreographed just like Michael's shes just doing feminine moves

the only similar choreography they have is Nasty and Bad, and Nasty came out before Bad

all their choreo is the fast paced, highly technical and choreographed style. Janet just does female moves & Michael does male ones. Which is why most performers are influenced by both and do tributes to both

I said Whitney because her music wasn't as great as her voice, she was definitely the singer and not the visionary artist like Janet or Mariah
They had a image/sound that they took forward every time.
