This is true

The Panini mess in 2019 was cute but it was eh

Compared to this year w/ the BET Awards & last night

We're witnessing his growth in real time. He has a lot of potential

I could only imagine what a LNX tour would give cause he's starting to show promise as an entertainer

I love how Normani and Chloe both have amazing energy on stage but give 2 different things and really give us variety. They're great for each other.

This is a great point

It seems like only the K-Pop industry regularly gives its artists development before they launch them (well to the extreme since its controversial)

ie:

The way princess had more stage presence than the basic crackers last night>>>>>

it's not completely unheard of for new artists to have a period of time where they're figuring themselves out.

GHan didn't immediately step into her own signature style. for a while she def modeled herself as the "bvy whitney"

mariah was modeled after whitney until she really began stepping into her own signature style with all her super girly album titles, rainbow colors, hip hop infused teas, etc

its very rare for an artist to just come owt the gate just having complete clarity on their own artistic identity.
chloe is over there copying fas for now but soon she'll step more into her own mess as well.

i'd say give them one album or two before we say they'll never figure out who they are.

I agree with a lot of what you said. Artist def need time to come into their own. However, even with the ladies mentioned it never felt like cosplay.

Imagine baby Bran singing I wanna be down, but performing in gowns and a mini wig like Nippy.

Tbh, I wish artist development would return. I feel like the last decade or more has been artist jacking the ones before them and always claiming "homage" "inspired" and it's starting to seem like a crutch. Even tho Ciara was the next coming of Janet & Aaliyah she never once rested on their work or nostalgia. These new creatives just aren't that creative. Chloe was Beyoncé 2006 yesterday

Seems like Doja did a great job as a host. I can't remember the last time I actually watched and awards show tho. Maybe  2016? Just give me the individual clips after
:udontlookok:
She barely hosted.

:udontlookok:
!!!!!'

She had to prep for her performance.  Idk why she had to do both :dead: she should've hosted next year

One thing about this new generation, that Ive noticed and like, is that they're not ageist like our generation.

They seem to respect, love, and see our generation of artists as their own.

Whereas, our generation is always like "why is this old ass bitch here? Send ha to the goddam NURSING home already"
:udontlookok:

!!!
Janet wasn't "Janet" till the third album, Tina didn't get a hit till her 5th album
it takes time

I can agree with all of this. The only difference is that the industry doesn't give u as many chances as it did in the 80s and 90s. Normani has a huge platform, performing at the VMAs twice before she even put out an album or had a bona-fide smash hit. There are so many black R&B artists that would've loved to have this platform (Teyana being one of them) and so she has to get it right. RCA won't have a problem sending her to indie status. And Normani being indie will be the end of her career cause she doesn't seem to have that drive to push her work. We won't hear or see another Wild Side performance again I bet.
She did this to herself.
She has had more than enough time to become as stellar as the hype that surrounded her.

At some point, we have to embrace what is - Normani isn't good at anything. She's just ok. She lacks presence, persistence, drive and she has an inflated idea of what she's accomplished and even her abilities.

Her dancing comes off cheerish as well. Last night cemented the fact that she will fall into the aisle of an Ashanti.
idk about that last part tho

The girls will be lucky to sniff half of Ashanti's success. That girl slayed for a short period, but, she fucking SLAYED

And it makes sense a lot of these newer artists have no presence or development

The labels scout them based on followers/tiktok/social media presence/going viral

The revenue they bring in>>>>>>performance and talent

And I doubt they want to invest in artists like that anymore since record sales are down + streaming

Its giving fast food/microwaveable. Why invest when you can plop one out for a hit then move on to the next batch.
