The same people who complain are the same ones giving them attention and praising them for everything else.
I highly doubt that.

And Kim sees the problem in what she's accused of doing which is why she tries to excuse it.

The issue is that blackfishing is a not-so-distant cousin of blackface.

I get his point though...what do y'all want??
what can we do at this point.
Move on.
Other minority groups are fiercely protective over many aspects of their culture . If anything I'd say that historically, black people have been more than generous and welcoming when it comes to the cookout.... but newer generations are saying hell nah this is ours. We're drawing a line and holding those who cross the line accountable.

And  those who do express that have every right to do so. They don't need to be hushed.

Kalmyks are tribal Mongolic people who settled in Russia. It's estimated that only 300,000 Kalmyk descendants exist worldwide - with only 3,000 in America.

If a regular regular White girl walked up in a convenient store and reaches into the door to grab her a Spritebut she has braids, we are offended and she's appropriating? I dont know guys it gotta be room for levels of this. Are we mad at Kim because she's rich and beautiful and influential and on a level high enough that outsiders admire her while she's in her braids? Cuz if Sarah pulled up next to me and she has braids I'm like.... Ok.... She likes braids and Black culture. And that's ok to me :uhh:

I think we're mad at the public response not the girls themselves wearing their braids. And the latter is only an issue when the girl is famous and admired enough to garner a positive response in the media while Black women in those same spaces in the media are vilified. And that's what Funky was saying about being mad a the media.

it's not about everyone in the community having to be offended ... and if they're not offended somethings wrong with them

It's totally ok to not be outraged

But just be reasonable to understand why others find it offensive to any degree. That's all. It's not super hard

I'm not personally super offended by non-African American (non-white) people saying nigga .  But I'd advise them that you WILL run across a black person who takes issue with it .

Like Sis I understand u from the same place I am and ur 4th great grandma was part black or whatever but if it doesn't register in ur appearance to the black person who hears u saying it, brace urself for a lashing.

Nfnfnfnf and don't say I didn't warn u. We still cool tho

Kim and her family are specifically the ones being criticized. Like Claudia said it's like being used as a tool for their success on purpose, and it's more than just her braids. The fake body, the botox lips etc.

All funky had to say is "EYE don't see an issue with it personally. Here's why."

which he would totally be entitled to.

but as usual he took an opportunity to roll his neck at black women trying to tell them how to feel and what should and shouldn't matter to THEM.

He's NOT entitled to that.

Right, even though I really don't understand why myself, I guess I can respect that some people do find it offensive.

Question. So in the way that 4 White people in Armenia used to get their hair braided, and 4 Black people in Australia have naturally blonde hair........ is (insert female singer with blonde hair here) wearing it to appeal to a broader/different audience the same as Kim wearing braids to appeal to a certain audience?

I dunno
Beyoncé with blonde hair seems more like a brand/artistic/marketing thing to me more than an attempt to appeal to white people it's kinda synonymous with her.
It sets her apart from other black female singers and it's instantly recognisable.
You think black woman with blonde hair? Beyoncé.
That dyke cut or red curly hair? Rihanna
Swoop over the eye? Aaliyah
Middle part, jet black weave? Naomi
Braids? Brandy

To me that's a yes bro. She wouldn't be where she is if she didn't appeal to White people.

The Only BLACK Kalmyks

It's not the same.

A white woman with blond hair and blue eyes is seen as the standard of beauty in America. If anything non-white people who try to emulate that look ... for many of them it's more than just "appealing to a wider audience" ... it's literally tryna even out the playing field as much as they can .

Trying to find some level of fairness.

In many cases it's also, unfortunately , buying into the idea that those looks are "better" or more beautiful. Often times, these women are VICTIMS whether they know it or not.

It'll never be the same as a white woman saying she wants to be Laquesha for the weekend . It goes WAY deeper than just a fun aesthetic.

Then why would anyone blackfish?

Are people like Kim actually helping to level that same playing field you spoke of? Blurring the lines a bit, you know, flipping the script real ally-ish?

I also weighed this, and wanted to go deeper in one of my posts but I'm working and on mobile so ain got time for that, but the appropriation vs. assimilation angle
