i would visit a plantation tbh
especially the one my grandmother's ancestors were held at in north carolina - i actually know exactly where it is....they've maintained it the same it was during slavery ...very little changed.
it's obviously not beautiful and pleasant memories but still part of our history as black americans. nothing im shy or ashamed about
really no different than when people visit the grounds of former concentration camps ...which were just outright gruesome and nightmare-ish.
but i dont think its cute to turn the messes into a bed-n-breakfast tea. if ur gonna preserve the history, just preserve it ...freeze it in time a bit.
it's not something meant to be FUN! and COZY!
i think their presentation is what really thew jill off. maybe she went there expecting things to be more serious and sensitive.
i noticed that she kept referring to the way the tour guide was showing the place off.
"stay in the slave quarters!

we remodeled it . super cute!

"
i'd be pissing on their floors too tbh.
