telling someone they look like someone else u know or a especially a well known celeb?

i think some are super safe and more likely to be universally accepted as compliment
like telling a woman she reminds u of halle berry or naomi campbell
or a guy that he reminds u of denzel or morris chestnut or something

but then there are some where u just never know
even if u personally feel that celeb/personality is beautiful

if i have to basically follow it up with "ur the cute version tho"

i probably wouldnt compare them to that person to begin with.
i would feel rude. "u look like this person who i clearly dont think is cute, but dont worry - ur cute tho".

That's the thing ...

it's one of those things where someone won't actually tell u they're offended .

very few people are gonna say "excuse me?" Most will probably smile and nod and keep it moving.

and it's also unnecessarily low key referring to the celeb in question  as unattractive / ugly. It's just not very positive .

If I'm complimenting someone i want it to be devoid of negativity , with no "buts" involved . I shouldn't have to explain or proactively defend the intent of a compliment .

If I have to do all that I'm gonna just say nothing at all.
Or just simply say "you're so cute" without the extra stuff.

Unless the person is generally regarded as attractive, it can be taken the wrong way.

My sister showed me a picture of her and my other sister recently and I was like 'Oh [other sister] kinda looks like Bree Runway here' and my sister was like 'Erm yeah, she'd kinda be offended if you actually told her that'.
I was like 'Oh...'

I think it's those celebs who fall in a "midpoint" of sorts

Like they're not universally regarded or pushed as unattractive/undesirable , but they're not universally regarded as beauty kwees either

So The way it's taken can go either way

One off them called me Ms Coconut today because I sound "white" and the Ms. cos they think I'm confirmed gay because they noticed I had a facial and mask treatment during the weekend and my has been glowing all week.

This Indian guy at my job said me and my coworker who's afro-Latina look like twins . Was kinda bold but he's very familiar and playful with both of us so I can see why he was comfortable saying it

We embraced it though . I actually saw the likeness and she's a cutie IMO so I wasn't offended. We call each other "twinzy" all the time now .

Was still very ballsy of him telling black people they look alike but he's one of those people who is  likable enough for u to just take it for what it is .

And She's one of those afro-latinas who are super duper pro black . Which I love . So we here >><<  on so many levels .

I find that insulting to receive and say not because of how attractive the compared person is or isn't, but I'd want someone I'm seeing to feel unique, and see me as the same.
