Defamation case in Virginia:
Johnny Depp sued his ex wife for 50 million. Amber Heard wrote an article in the Washington Post about domestic violence. She didn't mention his name in the article but people assumed the  'wifebeater' was Depp.

Amber Heard chose to counter-sue Depp for 100 million dollars because he and his lawyers made claims that she is a liar.

The case is in Virginia because this is where the Washington Post was published in 2018. It's also strategic for Depp because Anti-slapp laws are different than for example California. However, the laws were changed a bit since filing to give people more freedom of press. Depp argues it's a private matter, Heard argues 'speaking up against men in power' is about something bigger than her ex...therefore she feels she is allowed to discuss her past experiences. The jury will decide whether Heard was lying or if Depp is using the court system to continue abuse. 

Celebrities we will hear from either live in court, via call are Paul Bettany, Elon Musk and James Franco.
We will also learn more about communications they had with: Disney, Warner bros producers, Jason Momoa, Jack White, J.K. Rowling, Ellen Barkin.. and most importantly the LAPD.

Today, day 1, the jurors for this trail were successfully selected.

Past:
Depp lost the libel case in the UK vs the Sun. The judge ruled it was likely he was violent against Heard on multiple occasions. Heard was not the defendant, she testified to help the Sun. His stans believe in his innocence and think he was abused by Heard and if he did do something, it would be self-defense. They don't think the UK case was fair and also think Heard manipulated evidence (photos of bruises).

Depp also believes he is innocent and started this second defamation case to clear his name and restore his reputation.

This is hopefully going to be the last time Depp and Heard get to air their dirty laundry in court. I personally think they were both in a toxic relationship. I'm not too convinced Depp was an angel like his fans claim (he was using a lot of drugs and alcohol). (He even admitted in UK court he head-butted her)
I also think Heard might have had serious mental health problems. They were stuck in a very unhealthy relationship. There are so many different stories on the internet (most from Depp's fans, they are biased of course)..I am curious to hear both sides and let the judge and jury finish this saga for once and for all.

I don't think there will be winners in this case. Just a lot of mess for the tabloids.

I can't heard completely got away with the UK case and still kept her work and projects whilst Johnny lost all of his despite the facts showing they were both violent toward each other

I think it's good they will show all evidence again and we will also hear more from LAPD, doctors and psychologists.

I believe Marilyn Manson was initially going to be an important person defending him in court. He is Johnny's best friend and his daughter's god-father. Now that he is going through some serious trouble himself with Evan Rachel Wood they are probably staying away from him. He is not on the witness list.

The dirty laundry these people have smh. Yesterday was Day 3 and a lot was revealed. A therapist for couple's therapy said there was mutual abuse. This will definitely hurt Amber's reputation, still this doesn't prove JD wasn't abusive so I doubt he will be able to convince a jury he is completely innocent.

Interesting texts:

In a text on Aug. 24, 2014, Depp wrote, "Forgot to tell you had a hopefully very positive and free of ego squawk with Amber last night that went very well...and then I shot a few negroes in a club on Sunset Boulevard."

Dr Kipper, who helped him with rehab, said Johnny was trying to be funny. His stans are claiming he is referring to Mexican beers?! Sure...

The day's witnesses included Mr Depp's longtime friend Isaac Baruch, who was asked by Ms Heard's attorney Elaine Bredehoft, "do you recall Mr Depp ever telling you that he hoped that Amber Heard's rotting corpse is decomposing in the f*****g trunk of a Honda Civic?"
