The Only BLACK Kalmyks

Juneteenth is a day of celebration. And for me personally, it's also a day to remember our ancestors who never got a chance to experience the freedom that was given. Those who were born enslaved, and unfortunately died enslaved as well.

Those who couldn't even imagine a life outside of slavery because it's all they knew, it was all their parents knew, and it was all their grandparents knew. Their lives were stolen from them, and for that, I am sad. They should never be forgotten.

But my heart is full of happiness for our ancestors who did experience that moment where new possibilities actually became possible. Happy Juneteenth.

It's unfortunate that it took George Floyd's death to make this a federal holiday.
