Wesley Wallace, a resident of Houston, Texas, tested positive for monkeypox and shares his story.

Wallace says he never imagined he would catch the disease, which he had seen in the news in recent months.

"On Monday I noticed that they started to appear as small blisters and I thought: 'oh this looks bad like rashes on the face' and by Tuesday I realized that it was not normal and that it was something else," says the man.

How did Wallace get monkeypox?

Wallace says that he went to different bars in the area, as well as an event in the city of Austin, but he does not know how exactly he came into contact with the virus.

"I had a fever, chills, night sweats, plus headaches, all the symptoms you've read about monkeypox I had, every one of them," he added.

When he saw that the lesions on his face were beginning to get bigger and bigger, he went to the doctor who, after examining him, told him that he had already seen similar cases and that he suspected it was monkeypox, days later they gave him the result and it was positive.
